The Japanese automobile manufacturer has officially confirmed on July 21, 2026, that they are going to introduce the Toyota Corolla EV sometime in 2027. Reportedly, they will launch an electric four-door sedan that will compete with the Chinese pure-electric sedans. Notably, its design is set to be based on the Toyota Corolla Concept, unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
At the front end, the concept has shark-nose-inspired styling to give it a futuristic look, a slim full-width LED daytime running light to enhance its daytime visibility, vertical LED projector headlights for better visibility on the road at night, a closed-off grille for better aerodynamics and improved efficiency, a large black lower air intake to keep the electronics cool, and the Toyota logo on the hood end for branding.
On the sides, it features a low-slung four-door sedan profile with the coupe-like fastback roofline to give it a dynamic in-profile view; flush-type handles for the doors to improve aerodynamics and enhance premiumness; a strong shoulder line running from front to rear to make it unique among the rivals; and large multi-spoke alloy wheels and flared wheel arches to enhance road presence.
The rear has a through-type, full-width LED taillight bar to create a wide stance and mirror the front-end lighting signature; a minimalist tailgate design to make it recognizable even from the back; a diffuser-style sporty bumper to add SUV characteristics; an integrated lip spoiler on the trunk to enhance high-speed stability and improve airflow on the rear; and Corolla lettering on the tailgate for branding.
The interior of the concept is also revealed. It has a three-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons, under which there’s a digital instrument cluster. The touchscreen infotainment system is available before the co-passenger seat. The center console is floating, which consists of wireless phone charging and a storage compartment for carrying small items and enhancing practicality.
Other notable features inside the cabin are slim air-conditioning vents integrated into the dashboard; premium upholstery for seats to enhance seating comfort and premiumness; ambient lighting for enhanced mood for nighttime driving; a windshield-mounted interior rearview mirror to get a clear view of the back via the rear windshield; and armrests at the center of the front seat.
It comes with a seating capacity of 4 people in the traditional 2-2 arrangement. Each occupant is set to get ample legroom, headroom, and shoulder room to sit comfortably even for a long drive. Behind the second row, there’s a boot space to carry luggage; it is accessible via the powered tailgate. The exterior and interior of the production model are set to be slightly different from the concept.
Reportedly, the cabin of the upcoming Toyota Corolla EV will feature heating, ventilation, and massage functions for all seats; the front seats are expected to be powered with the memory function. Three-zone automatic climate control is anticipated, which lets different cabin temperatures be set for the driver, co-passenger, and rear-seating passengers.
Nothing about the powertrain is made public. As Toyota is planning to introduce the model against the BYD, Chery, and other Chinese electric vehicles, it is highly expected to make its debut with both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and double-motor all-wheel-drive drivetrains. Its only RWD debut will get a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a single-speed automatic transmission; if AWD also, then it will also get an induction motor.
Likely to be available with a lithium-ion battery pack around 80 kWh, giving a Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure range of above 600 kilometers. If rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive are both introduced, then it is certain that they will come with two different battery packs. Set to be based on an 800-volt high-voltage electrical architecture supporting fast DC charging.
