In the last half-decade, many national and international automobile manufacturers have introduced EV models in the Indian market with an ex-showroom price under ₹20 lakh. Here, we have come up with the top five models, which are the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki eVitara, Tata Sierra EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Tata Nexon EV. Let’s have a closer look at each of these EVs.
Mahindra BE 6

The BE 6 is a five-seater electric SUV that is available for sale with a starting ex-showroom price of ₹18.90 lakh. It comes with two different lithium-ion battery packs that are 59 kWh and 79 kWh, giving the ARAI-certified range of 557 km and 683 km, respectively. On the rear axle, it gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a single-speed automatic transmission.
Since the electric motor is mounted on the rear axle, it features a rear-wheel drive drivetrain. With the standard and large battery pack, the e-motor generates 228 bhp, but with the large one, it is 282 bhp. The peak torque with both battery packs is 380 Nm. Reportedly, to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, all variants take 6.7 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 202 km/h.
Maruti Suzuki eVitara

The eVitara is also a five-seater EV. Its ex-showroom price starts with ₹15.99 lakh. The carmaker is selling it in the Indian market with two LPF battery packs; they are 49 kWh and 61 kWh. With the standard battery pack, it gives the ARAI-certified range of 440 km, but with the larger one, it is 543 km. It comes with a PMSM with a one-speed automatic gearbox on the front axle, featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.
The electric motor generates the power of 142 bhp and 172 bhp for the variant equipped with a 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack, respectively, but the peak torque is 193 Nm with both. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes 9.6 seconds for the standard range variant and 8.7 seconds for the long one. The top speed for all variants is 150 km/h. Support DC chargers up to 70 kW, which take 45 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging.
Tata Sierra EV

The Sierra EV is the latest electric vehicle from Tata Motors, whose starting ex-showroom price is ₹18.79 lakh. It is available with both rear-wheel-drive and quad-wheel-drive drivetrains. The RWD gets a PMSM with single-speed automatic transmission on the rear axle, and QWD also features an induction motor on the front axle. They are selling it with two LPF battery packs that are 63 kWh and 75 kWh. Notably, the RWD is available with both, but the QWD is being sold only with a large option.
With the standard battery pack, the RWD gives the ARAI-certified range of 535 km and 627 km with the standard and larger battery pack, and the QWD runs up to 565 km. The combined power output of the QWD is 313 bhp, and peak torque is 504 Nm, which makes 0 to 100 km/h acceleration possible in just 5.8 seconds, and maximum speed is 180 km/h. It supports DC chargers up to 120 kWh, which take only 25 minutes for 20 to 80 percent charging.
Tata Curvv EV

The Curvv EV comes with a single lithium-ion battery pack of 55 kWh, whose ex-showroom price ranges from ₹16.99 lakh to ₹19.49 lakh. It gets a PMSM with a one-speed automatic gearbox featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. The motor generates a maximum power of 167 bhp and peak torque of 215 Nm; its 0 to 100 km/h sprint timing is 8.6 seconds, and its top speed is 160 km/h.
When the battery pack is fully charged, it gives the ARAI-certified range of 520 kilometers. But the real-world range is up to 430 kilometers. It supports a DC charger up to 70 kW, which takes 40 minutes for a 10 to 80 percent charge, and comes with a standard 7.2 kW AC charger for home charging that takes 8 hours for a full charge.
Tata Nexon EV

The Nexon EV is available for sale with an ex-showroom price between ₹12.49 lakh and ₹17.49 lakh. Comes with two lithium-ion battery packs that are 30 kWh and 45 kWh. The ARAI-certified range is 275 km and 489 km for the standard and large battery packs, respectively. It also gets a PMSM with a one-speed automatic gearbox on the front axle and features a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.
The electric motor generates the power of 127 bhp and 142 bhp with 30 kWh and 46 kWh battery packs, respectively, but the peak torque is 215 Nm for both. The standard range variant takes 9.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph and can reach a maximum speed of 120 kmph, but the long one takes only 8.9 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph, and its high speed is 150 kmph.
