Geely Auto, the Chinese automobile manufacturer, has recently tested the upcoming D-segment flagship sedan Geely Preface L90, which is all set to make its global debut on July 10, 2026. In the domestic market and overseas, they are going to launch the model as both an internal combustion engine and a hybrid electric vehicle.
Compared to the existing Geely Preface, it is larger, more premium, and more technology-focused. The carmaker has teased this upcoming vehicle by releasing an official image giving an idea of its looks. On the sides, it will get mechanical door handles, blackout pillars, and a double-toned outside rear view mirror with integrated blinkers.
The length is 4,956 mm with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm; the width is 1,915 mm, and the height is 1,505 mm. Compared to its predecessor, it is 131 mm longer, with an increase of 45 mm in distance between the axles and 35 mm longer and wider. As the dimensions in all terms are increased, occupants are now set to get more ample legroom, headroom, and shoulder room to sit comfortably.
Notably, the upcoming Geely Preface L90 from Geely Auto is the twin of the Geely Galaxy Starshine 7’s Max variant, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. It is certain that the option of the roof-mounted LIDAR will be available, featuring Geely’s G-Pilot H5 intelligent driving system, which works with 508 TOPS dual Nvidia Orin-X AI chips supporting urban and highway navigation autopilots.
Built on Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture, they will introduce two four-cylinder turbocharged diesel-powered internal combustion engines that are 1.5 liters and 2.0 liters, whose peak power output is 148 kW (198 hp) and 200 kW (268 hp), respectively. The HEV will get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE, which generates a maximum power of 200 kW (268 hp).
The hybrid electric vehicle version is expected to be mated with a one-speed dedicated hybrid transmission and get an electric motor on the front axle, which is most likely to deliver the power of 175 kW (235 hp). Previous reports from ChinaCarNews have already confirmed that it will give a fuel efficiency of 3.98 liters per 100 kilometers.
Reportedly, it will make its debut as a 5-seater with a 2-3 layout and large boot space. The cabin is expected to get a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel and also a large touchscreen at the center of the dashboard for infotainment. Soft-touch upholstery for the seats is highly anticipated and has many smart features for the comfort and convenience of occupants.
The Geely Preface sold in the internal market is known as the Geely Xingrui in China; it is built on Geely and Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which also underpins the Volvo XC40, Polestar 2, and Lynk & Co. 01. In China, it is available with two different engine options for the ICE variant and one hybrid trim.
The 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine is mated with a 7-speed DCT; it generates the power of 181 PS (133 kW) and a peak torque of 290 Nm. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes under 9 seconds; it can reach a maximum speed of 195 km/h, and the fuel efficiency is 6.7 liters per 100 km.
And the 2.0-liter turbo petrol ICE comes with only an 8-speed automatic transmission option; it delivers the power of 190 PS (140 kW) and 300 Nm torque, which makes the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration possible in just 7.9 seconds. Its top speed is 210 km/h, and fuel efficiency is 6.2 liters per 100 km.
Lastly, the 1.5-liter turbo hybrid petrol engine is mated with an electric motor, whose transmission option is a one-speed electric dedicated hybrid transmission. Its combined power output is 272 PS (200 kW), and peak torque is 400 Nm. To sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes 6.5 seconds, reaches a maximum speed of 200 km/h, and gives a mileage of 4.0 liters per 100 km.
