Kia’s 4th EV & First Hybrid Teased for India in 2026

Kia India, a subsidiary of the South Korean automobile manufacturer, has released two teasers with the texts BEV and HEV. Notably, BEV stands for battery electric vehicle and HEV for hybrid electric vehicle. The teasers are hinting towards the launch of two electrified SUVs; the first one may be the Kia Syros EV and the other one the Kia Sorento Hybrid.

Reportedly, they will introduce the pure-electric version of the Kia Syros in August 2026 for the Indian market and a strong hybrid of the Kia Sorento in the quarter of 2026. The BEV is expected to be available for sale with an ex-showroom price between ₹14 lakh and ₹20 lakh, and the HEV may be available for sale with ₹28 lakh and ₹35 lakh.

Kia Syros EV

The Syros EV from Kia India is a pure-electric version of the Syros, which is already available for sale in India with an internal combustion engine. This upcoming car is built on the K1 platform with front-wheel drive. Its front and rear suspensions are MacPherson strut and coupled torsion beam, respectively, and the front brakes are discs, and the rear are drums.

They will introduce it with a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle by mating it to a single-speed automatic gearbox. Battery pack details are still pending but likely to be available for sale with two lithium-ion battery packs that can be 42 kWh and 49 kWh. The power and peak torque are set to be different from one another based on the battery pack.

The launch of this EV will add the fourth model to the electric vehicle lineup of Kia India; the models that are already on sale are the Kia Carens Clavis EV, Kia EV6, and Kia EV9. Notably, its exterior is highly anticipated to be similar to its ICE counterpart with a few changes on the front end, such as a closed-off grille, revised lighting, an updated bumper, and an aerodynamic look.

Inside, it gets a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel and a touchscreen infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard. Also get a wireless phone charging pad on the centre console, six airbags across the cabin, roof-integrated rear AC vents, soft-touch upholstery for seats and trims for the dashboard and doors, USB charging ports in both rows, and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Kia Sorento Hybrid

Kia India will introduce the Sorento Hybrid to the Indian market in multiple variants. Notably, it is built on the N3 platform, featuring a front-wheel drive drivetrain; all-wheel drive is also possible, but it is very unlikely that they will introduce it to the Indian market. The front suspension is a MacPherson strut, and the rear is multi-link independent; the front and rear brakes are ventilated discs for strong braking power.

Its dimensions are already in the public domain; it measures 4,815 mm, 1,900 mm, and 1,700 mm in length, width, and height, respectively. They will introduce it with both a seating capacity of 6 people in a 2-2-2 layout and 7 people in a 2-3-2 layout. Reportedly, it will get a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE under the hood, mated with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Outside, it gets a Tiger Nose grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, and connected LED tail lamps on the front end; mechanical door handles, roof rails, and up to 19-inch alloy wheels on the sides; and vertically oriented LED tail lamps, a large tailgate with a roof-integrated spoiler, and bumper cladding with a silver skid plate at the rear.

Inside, it will feature a decent boot space for carrying luggage, up to 8 airbags to ensure the safety of all, 12.3-inch panoramic displays, one under the steering wheel and another at the centre of the dashboard, a twelve-speaker sound system, a 360-degree camera, a Level 2 ADAS suite, wireless phone charging in the front row, and a USB charging port in all three rows.
