Hyundai Motor India Limited, the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean Hyundai Motor Company, will soon launch a locally manufactured sub-4-metre electric SUV in India that will compete with the Tata Punch EV and other electric cars in the segment. A report from Autocar India suggests that HMIL will launch this model to the Indian market by late 2026.
This upcoming compact five-seater electric vehicle has been spotted testing on public roads multiple times with heavy camouflage to hide the design before the launch. Recently it was again spied testing; for the time, its interior has been spied revealing what its dashboard is equipped with.
What does the spied image of the upcoming Hyundai car reveal?
One of the spy shots of the test mule shows that behind the steering wheel it has a small digital instrument cluster, which seems to be the part of Pleos Connect, Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system and car-connected technology that is based on Android Automotive OS.
The Hyundai Motor Group website says that the Pleos Connect comes with smartphone-style navigation, media integration, over-the-air software updates, and a context-aware voice assistant that they have named GLeo AI.
The South Korean automobile manufacturer used it for the first time in the Hyundai Grandeur for the domestic market; after that, three more models from the brand received it: the Ioniq 3, Elantra, and Tucson. In India, it is all set to make its debut with the launch of the Hyundai electric SUV.
In the spy shots, we can clearly see a large touchscreen infotainment system is covered with wrap, which further strengthens the proof for use of the Pleos Connect, because with the slim driver display, a large horizontally orientated display at the dashboard’s centre is standard.
Notably, all the Hyundai cars that come with the Pleos Connect get a 9.9-inch instrument cluster and 17-inch infotainment touchscreen; the same setup seems to be used in the test mule. The Pleos Connect for the upcoming Hyundai EV will make it the segment dominating in the Indian market.

The upcoming Hyundai sub-4-metre electric SUV is internally codenamed as HE1i; the nameplate will be unveiled near the launch. Reports confirm that it will measure around 3.9 metres in length with a wheelbase of 2.6 metres. A total of 5 seats in the traditional 2-3 layout with decent cargo space behind the second row is certain.
This e-car underpin the platform that is derived from the modular E-GMP (K) and feature a front-wheel-drive drivetrain, meaning the permanent magnet synchronous motor with one-speed automatic transmission is set to be mounted on the front axle, but its maximum power output and peak torque are still pending.
A lithium-ion battery pack between 40 kWh and 50 kWh is anticipated, giving the range on ARAI-certified conditions around 450 km. Safety features such as seven airbags inside the cabin, a 360-degree camera, and a Level 2 advanced driving assistant system suite are set to be offered for the top-end variants.

The HMLI is selling a total of six sport utility vehicles in the Indian market: the Exter, Venue (including N line), Creta (including N line and electric), Alcazar, Tucson, and IONIQ 5; two hatchbacks, the Grand i10 Nios and i20 (including N line); and two sedans, the Verna and Aura. The upcoming sub-4-metre e-car will add the 7th model in the SUV lineup and the third in the EV lineup.
The sales figures for the Hyundai cars in the Indian market for the first eight months of 2026 are 414,558 units with 59,107 in January, 52,407 in February, 55,064 in March, 51,902 in April, 47,837 in May, 39,635 in June, 54,210 in July, and 54,396 in August. In August 2026, HMLI registered 0.34% growth on a month-on-month basis and 23.62% on a year-on-year basis.
