2027 Hyundai Tucson Revealed: New-Gen SUV Gets Bigger Dimensions, Rugged Design

The Hyundai Tucson, a five-seater compact sport utility vehicle, was available for sale in the Indian market within the fourth-generation avatar from August 10, 2022, to November 2025. Soon we will see it return to the Indian market as a fifth-generation model, which the South Korean automobile manufacturer has unveiled recently.

The newly unveiled Hyundai Tucson is all set to be known as the 2027-year model globally and referred to as ‘new generation’, ‘next generation’ and ‘fifth generation’ in automotive writings. Internally, it is codenamed as NX5. They have unveiled the vehicle, releasing exterior and interior images.

How’s its exterior?

At the front-end, it has a full-width LED headlamp just below the bonnet, which seems connected with the vertically orientated LED daylight running light. Its bumper gets the layer design with large air intakes, and a flatter bonnet is positioned higher to enhance the modern appearance for the front fascia. The Hyundai logo on the bonnet is added with great precision for the branding.

Looking at the sides, it gives the appearance of the Arts of Steel design language with a rugged and boxy stance. In profile, it gets thick, squared-off black wheel arches, cladding and large, double-toned alloy wheels, improving the road presence. The door retains the conventional pull-type handle that adds practicality and also ruggedness. Other features on its exterior are ORVMs integrating blinkers on the A-pillar and a black rail on the roof.

At the back, it has a roof-integrated spoiler above the windscreen. Beneath the spoiler, it has a braking system. A shark-fin antenna is clearly visible on the roof. The tailgate has ‘TUCSON’ lettering below the full-width LED taillight and ‘Hyundai’ above the same. On either edge vertically stacked LED taillamps are placed. Bumper has a skid plate, adding ruggedness to the rear view; it also integrates a slim horizontal reflector.

What’s inside the cabin?

Inside, it has a D-shaped two-spoke steering wheel with four dots representing the letter “H” in Morse code and physical buttons. Before the driver’s seat at the base of the windscreen, it features a slim, horizontal-shaped digital instrument cluster. At the dash’s centre a large floating touchscreen infotainment system is mounted.

A block of physical buttons is placed just below the centrally mounted screen. Other features that we get to see inside its cabin are ambient light on the dashboard and front doors, two cup holders and two wireless phone charging pads, enhancing the phone convenience for both co-passenger and driver.

What others are revealed?

Besides the exterior and interior, they also have disclosed its dimensions. Now, it measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,658 mm in height with a 2,785 mm wheelbase. Compared to the four-gen version that has already been discontinued in India, the length and width have been increased by 70 mm and 30 mm, but the height has been reduced by 7 mm, and the wheelbase has been extended by 30 mm.

With a 30 mm longer wheelbase, the second-row passengers are set to get better legroom that improves the seating comfort and makes the long journey more comfortable. It is confirmed that there’s no change in seating layout; 2-3 arrangements with boot space behind the second row are all set to be retained. Compared to discounted ones, it may have little large cargo capacity.

Any update on its powertrains?

Regarding its powertrain, not a single detail has been made public. In India, the fourth generation was on sale as an internal combustion engine vehicle with both petrol and diesel power. Notably, its return in India will happen only as pure petrol. Under the hood, it may feature a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged ICE.

In the international market, the South Korean automobile manufacturer will also launch it as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, which will get a petrol engine and drive electric motor under the hood and even a lithium-ion battery pack beneath the floor. They may also consider a PHEV for the Indian market after re-debutting the name plate with the pure-petrol powertrain.
