Volvo Cars India, the Indian subsidiary of the Swedish luxury automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars, is all set to launch the Volvo EX90, a three-row pure-electric luxury sport utility vehicle, in the Indian market. The global debut of the model happened back in November 2022, and almost four years after that it is coming to India as a completely built unit.
They haven’t confirmed any date for the launch. Notably, the carmaker will introduce the model in India in August 2026. Following the launch, it is all set to take on the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Kia EV9. There’s no update on its price; we are expecting it to cost starting from ₹1 crore for the base and go up to ₹1.3 crore for the top trim.
The Volvo EX90 is coming to India with the same specifications and features with which it is sold in the international market. Globally, it is available for sale in three variants, which are Single Motor, Twin Motor, and Twin Motor Performance. The first one gets an electric motor on the rear axle with a one-speed automatic gearbox, which generates a power of 279 hp (205 kW) and torque of 490 Nm.
The setup makes it a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 8.4 seconds. And the second and third ones get two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. The one that is present on the rear axle is mated with a single-speed automatic transmission. Their drivetrain is all-wheel drive. The second one’s power output is 449 hp (330 kW), and torque is 670 Nm. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 5.5 seconds.
And the third one delivers 680 hp (500 kW) power and 870 Nm torque; its 0 to 100 km/h sprinting time is 4.2 seconds. The top speed for all three variants is 180 kmph. All variants are equipped with a 106 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, giving 620 km, 624 km, and 603 km for Single Motor, Twin Motor, and Twin Motor Performance, respectively, on the Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure.
All variants are built on an 800-volt electrical architecture and support DC chargers up to 350 kW, which take 22 minutes for 10 to 80 per cent charging. With the 7.2 kW and 11 kW AC chargers, it takes 11 hours and 17 hours, respectively, for a full charge. The carmaker hasn’t confirmed which one they will introduce; many reports claim that one is coming to the top-end variant.
The Volvo EX90’s length is 5,037 mm; width is 1,964 mm without mirror, 2,039 mm when the mirrors are folded, and 2,113 mm when the mirrors are extended; height ranges from 1,741 to 1,747 mm, depending on wheel size and suspension setting; ground clearance is 213 mm when only one person is travelling, but it reduces with load increase; and the wading depth is 450 mm.
It comes with a seating capacity of 6 individuals in a 2-2-2 layout and 7 people in 2-3-2 arrangements. Behind the third row, there is a boot space of 310 litres, which is expandable to 655 litres by folding the second-row seats and 1,040 litres by folding the third row. It also has 46 litres of front trunk storage, which helps in carrying small items.
Inside, the centre of the dashboard gets a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system that features Google built-in with Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay. Also features Bluetooth connectivity, OTA software updates, and 5G connectivity, and it is integrated with a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system.
