In an earlier report, we covered that BYD’s sub-brand Denza will make its debut in the Indian market with the launch of the Denza D9, a multi-purpose vehicle, and now an exclusive report from Autocar India suggests that the brand is also planning to bring the Denza Z9 GT shooting brake to the Indian market.
The report also confirms the launch route. BYD’s Denza will launch this vehicle in India by importing it as a CBU (completely built unit) from China. In the Chinese market, this car is available for sale with both all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric powertrains. For the Indian market, the EV model is on the card. Let’s have a closer look.
Denza Z9 GT Electric
The Z9 GT EV is a shooting brake with an all-electric powertrain from BYD’s sub-brand Denza, which makes its global debut in April 2024 at the Beijing Auto Show in China and then goes on sale in the domestic market last September.
One year after its launch in the Chinese market, the model is coming to India as a performance luxury car for the Indian driver who wants an EV shooting brake full of premium comfort and convenience, and it is most anticipated to cost less than rivals.
Notably, this pure electric car in the Indian market will give tough competition to BMW i5 M60 xDrive, Audi RS e-tron GT, and Porsche Taycan because these cars have only two electric motors, and the upcoming one from Denza gets three.
How’s the Denza Z9 GT Electric performance?
A total of three electric motors are available on the Denza Z9 GT Electric; one is mounted on the front axle, and two others are placed on the rear axle, with each wheel powering them separately. These three motors get power from a 122.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted beneath the floor.
Since there are three electric motors, its drivetrain is all-wheel-drive. The carmaker says that these e-motors combinedly deliver 1,156 hp of power, which makes 0 to 100 kmph acceleration possible in 2.7 seconds. The top speed of this all-electric shooting brake is 270 kmph.
What about the Denza Z9 GT EV range and charging?
When the battery pack is fully charged, it can run up to 600 km in WLTP conditions. The battery used in this model is next-generation, which supports megawatt-level charging. With a up to 1,500 kW DC charger, it takes only 5 minutes for 10 to 70 per cent charging and 9 minutes for up to 97%.
The 600 km range figure doesn’t reflect that on Indian roads it will run this much after each full charge. The real-world driving is set to vary depending on the driving conditions. With the ideal condition on Indian roads, reports suggest that it will run up to 550 km.
Dimensions and exterior features for Denza Z9 GT Electric
The length, width, and height of the Denza Z9 GT Electric are 5,180 mm, 1,990 mm, and 1,500 mm, respectively, with a 3,125 mm wheelbase. This car has a shooting brake body with a radical front-end design. Upfront, it has integrated headlights and a Denza logo at the centre.
The sides have flared wheel arches around the seven-spoke alloy wheels, hidden flush-type door handles, a large outside rear view mirror with a side indicator, and a floating roofline; and the rear has a sporty bumper, horizontally orientated taillamps, and a roof-integrated spoiler.
What features does the Denza Z9 GT EV get inside the cabin?
The cabin of the Denza Z9 GT has 5 seats in a 2-3 layout, whose boot space is 495 litres that is expandable up to 1680 litres. The dashboard has a 17.3-inch infotainment system and a 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster. There are dedicated refrigerators for the first and second rows with capacities of 4 litres and 10 litres, respectively.
The front passenger and driver seats have heating, ventilation and massage functions, and the rear seats are electrically adjustable with reclining. To ensure an immersive audio experience, the infotainment system is integrated with the Devialet premium sound system that has 20 speakers.
Any update on the Denza Z9 GT Electric launch date and price?
The exclusive report from Autocar India only confirms that the Denza will launch the Z9 GT all-electric shooting brake, but there’s no update on its launch date and time. Reports suggest that firstly the Denza D9 will go on sale; shortly after that, the Denza Z9 GT Electric will be with the ex-showroom price around ₹1.2 crore.
