The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a subcompact sport utility vehicle from Mahindra Auto, which is available for sale in the Indian market with the petrol and diesel powertrains from April 2024. This is a five-seater car; a good number of units have been sold out in the last two years. To further strengthen its positioning in the segment, the brand is all set to introduce a petrol-CNG version.
A most recent report suggests that the Indian automobile manufacturer will launch the Mahindra XUV 3XO with the petrol-CNG powertrain on October 15, 2026. The same reports also have revealed any other details for this upcoming model. Let’s have a closer look at the same.
CNG version confirmed.
Currently, the Mahindra XUV 3XO sub-4-meter SUV is available with three different powertrains. The first one is 1.2L turbo-petrol MPFI, the second is 1.2L turbo-petrol TGDi, and the third is 1.5L turbo-diesel. Each one is available with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission, but their performance varies from one another.
Regarding the petrol-CNG powertrain, nothing is officially confirmed. The same reports that talk about the launch date also suggest the petrol-CNG version will be available with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder MPFI turbo-petrol engine. Notably, the adoption of this petrol engine is highly anticipated because it is cheaper and easier for the company to do so.
It is very unlikely that the 1.2-liter DI turbo-petrol engine will be used because for the carmaker it will be complex and expensive. The company has already confirmed that this model will come with a factory-fitted CNG kit, but there’s no update on where they are going to place the CNG tanks; it is yet to be seen whether it will be beneath the floor or inside the boot.
If the CNG tanks are mounted behind the second row seats, the cargo capacity will be further compromised for the model. The existing petrol and diesel engines have a cargo capacity of 364 liters; if two 60-liter CNG cylinders inside the cabin are introduced, then the cargo capacity may remain around 244 liters.
Rest will remain the same.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO dimensions in terms of length, width, and height will remain 3,990 mm, 1,821 mm, and 1,647 mm, respectively, with the wheelbase of 2,600 mm and ground clearance of 201 mm. This car will still underpin the X100 platform; the same is also used for the existing Mahindra XUV300.

Its suspensions will have coil springs; the front and rear suspensions are set to be independent MacPherson struts and semi-independent twist beams, respectively. The front suspension will also retain an anti-roll bar, the same that is available for the existing powertrain models.
The MTV-CL damper technology that is already available for the existing Mahindra XUV 3XO will also be available for the CNG-petrol version to enhance driving comfort. The solid disc will also be borrowed from the existing model with other braking features, including ABS, EBD, and ESC.
Petrol-CNG may cost 1 lakh more.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO with the petrol-CNG powertrain is expected to be 1 lakh rupees costlier than the existing model that is available with a 1.2-liter MPFI turbocharged petrol-powered engine. Mahindra Auto will announce the actual price with the launch, which will vary depending on the variant.
Notably, this model with the 1.2-liter MPFI turbo-petrol ICE is available with both a six-speed manual and automatic gearbox, but the upcoming petrol-CNG is expected to make its debut with only a manual gearbox, as per the report, but the official confirmation is still awaited.
The petrol MT version ex-showroom price ranges from 7.79 lakh rupees to 10.30 lakh rupees. As an increase of 1 lakh rupees in the ex-showroom price is expected, according to reports, we are anticipating that the petrol-CNG will cost ex-showroom starting from 8.79 lakh rupees.
