The Tata Nexon EV is one of the electric vehicles from Tata Motors that are on sale in the Indian market; its current generation is available for sale from January 2020. Almost six years have passed since it debuted in India. Very soon it will get a next generation; the same has been spotted being carried on flatbed trucks.

The spy shots of the all-new Tata Nexon EV surfaced on the internet due to the Instagram page Trakin Auto, because the owner of the account shared it. The spied images reveal a battery pack beneath the floor and orange wiring. These two details confirm that the spotted Tata Nexon is an all-electric version, not the ICE-powered trim.

Noticebly, its silhouette is different than the outgoing model. On the side, we can clearly see a more flat roofline and an upright tailgate at the rear. Now, its new-generation model’s rear is less coupe-like. The conventional door handles and prominent wheel arches bracketing the five-spoke alloy wheels seem to be retained.

What else we know about it?

The second-generation Tata Nexon EV will make its debut in India somewhere in 2027, as per reports. Tata Motors has yet to reveal when they will launch it. Apart from the details that emerged through the spy shots, nothing else is available in the public domain. Reports also suggest that it will retain many design elements from the existing model.

Regarding the interior, it is tough to say anything. It is mentioned in many reports that Tata Motors will launch an all-new version introducing many new and upgraded features, but none of the reports mention what the upgrades or additions will be. A new infotainment system, an updated seat history, and more soft-touch trim are most likely.

Powertrain will remain same?

There’s no confirmation from Tata Motors if the powertrain for the next-generation Tata Nexon EV will remain the same. For reference, the current-generation version is available with two different lithium-ion battery packs: 30 kWh and 45 kWh, both with an FWD drivetrain.

The 30 kWh variant is named as Mid Range; it has a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle that generates 127 bhp power and 215 Nm torque, and the 45 kWh trim is referred to as Long Range and also has a PMSM, but its power output is 143 bhp, and the peak torque is the same as the MR variant.

The MIDC-certified range for the 30 kWh and 45 kWh variants is 325 km and 489 km, respectively, but the real world varies depending on factors. Tata Motors says that to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph, it takes only 9.2 seconds for the MR variant; the same for the LR is claimed to be 8.9 seconds.

Dimensional changes anticipated.

Tata Motors hasn’t officially confirmed that there will be any dimensional changes for the next-generation model compared to the outgoing version. A more upright stance is clearly visible in the online surfaced images, giving a hint of more height to the current-generation version.

The length, width, and wheelbase look familiar. If there will be any changes in these, we will get to know at the launch event, where they won’t also showcase this electric car but also reveal all the details, including price. For reference, the length, width, and height of the existing model are 3994 mm, 1811 mm, and 1616 mm, respectively.

The spied images confirm that there won’t be any changes in seating layout; it means the traditional 2-3 seating configuration will continue. The less coupe-like roofline will increase the cargo capacity behind the second row. The likely increase in the height may further enhance luggage carrying practicality for the 2027 Tata Nexon EV.
