Leapmotor Launches BE05 Ultra With US$17,400: 600 km Range & LiDAR-Based ADAS

The Chinese automaker Leapmotor has come up with the new variant of the B05, an all-electric compact hatchback, that is Ultra for the domestic market. In China, it is marketed as Lafa 5 Ultra and available for sale in two trims depending on the battery pack, standard and larger.

Its standard one is available with the price of 123,800 yuan (18,135 USD), but with a limited-time offer now it costs only 118,800 yuan (17,400 USD); the large one is priced at 129,800 yuan (19,015 USD) but is now available for 124,800 yuan (18,280 USD).

The Ultra variant arrived at the dealership across China in early April 2026, and now it is available for sale from the 23rd of the month. It features a seating capacity of 5 people with a layout of 2-3 and has a boot space of 435 litres that can be extended to 1400 litres by folding rear seats.

It is available in three sport exterior colour options, which are yellow, green, and grey; and the vehicle’s dimensions are length 4490 mm, width 1880 mm, height 1510 mm, and wheelbase 2735 mm. The main rivals of the Ultra version in the Chinese market are MG4 EV and BYD Dolphin.

Motor Setup, Battery Pack & Charging Time

The Ultra variant is available with a permanent magnet electric motor at the rear axle, meaning its drivetrain is rear-wheel drive. The transmission is the same as the regular B05, single-speed automatic. The motor generates the power of 180 kW (≈241 hp) and a torque of 255 Nm. With the kerb weight of 1,665 kg, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km in just 5.9 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 170 km/h.

It is available with two LPF battery packs, and they are 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh. The standard one has a CLTC range of 500 km, but the large battery pack runs 600 km on a full charge. It supports a DC charger up to 168 kW, which takes only 18 to 20 minutes for 10 to 30 per cent charging, depending on the battery. An AC charger of 11 kW comes with the vehicle that takes 4 to 6 hours for a full charge.

Front, Side & Rear Design

Leapmotor Launches BE05 Ultra

Up front, the Ultra features a large bumper to give a sporty look and improve cooling. Equipped with sharp LED headlights for better visibility at night and a modern appearance, it gets a closed-off grill for EV styling.

On the side, there are 19-inch alloy wheels that enhance stance and road grip and side skirts in sporty styling for better aerodynamics. The door handles are hidden, i.e., flush-type, to add a premium touch and improve efficiency.

At the rear, sleek LED tailgates are added, which make it a modern car. The roof spoiler at the back adds sporty appeal. The rear bumper mirrors the front’s styling and makes it recognisable even from the back.

Cabin & Technology

The Ultra comes with a black-themed interior, and seating is made up of faux-suede leather to ensure better comfort for the driver and passengers. The front seats are sporty and feature eight-point massage functions and ventilation. The screening wheel is heated for driver comfort during cold weather.

The cabin is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster; a driver display that shows battery, navigation and speed; and a 2.5K 14.6-inch central touchscreen, the infotainment system, which acts as a control panel. Both are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, which features a smooth UI and fast response.

Other notable features are LiDAR-based driver assistance systems featuring advanced object detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, etc., that make driving convenient, and autonomous parking functions which help in parking the car easily even in a compact area.
