The South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai unveiled the Hyundai Neira, a pure-electric multi-purpose vehicle, at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. Reportedly, it is developed specifically for the Indonesian market, whose manufacturing will take place at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia.
Notably, its overall design and proportions are similar to the all-electric seven-seater from Kia, that is, the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which is already on sale in the Indian market with a starting ex-showroom price of ₹17.99 lakh. The Neira that Hyundai showcased is a prototype, which means it is a pre-production model, meaning the final production model may come with changes and tweaks.
Launch in the Indonesian market is expected by 2026. The carmaker is highly anticipated to show the final production model in a few weeks before the market launch. They haven’t confirmed anything about its pricing. Some automotive media sources from Indonesia suggest that it may cost from IDR 300 million to IDR 350 million, which translates to ₹15.9 lakh to ₹18.6 lakh.
At the front, it has a full-width LED daylight running light on the top edge just below the bonnet, giving a distinctive lighting signature. Vertically stacked LED headlamps on the outer corners of the bumper give it a modern sport utility vehicle appearance and better visibility on the road, and a silver skid plate on the lower part of the front bumper gives it a rugged SUV-inspired look.
On the sides, it features double-toned multiple-spoke alloy wheels reducing air resistance and enhancing appearance; black wheel-arch cladding to protect the body from scratches; silver roof rails to help with carrying luggage and boxes on the roof; pull-type door handles to enhance practicality; lower body silver cladding to enhance the SUV-inspired styling; and A-pillar-mounted ORVMs that integrate blinkers to hint at the next move to other road users.
The rear boasts vertically mounted LED taillamps at the edges of the rear body to improve rear visibility; a horizontal LED light bar across the tailgate and between the taillamps, creating a wide stance; a roof-integrated spoiler above the windshield with a braking light; and a chunky bumper with a black and silver insert and a horizontal-shaped reflector on the side that illuminates at night and makes the vehicle visible to other road users even when the taillights are off.
Images of the Hyundai Neira prototype from the GIIAS 2026 that are floating on the web also include interior photos, which show that before the driving seat, it has two-spoke steering with physical buttons on the side of the spokes that can be easily used with thumbs; at the center, it has four dots, which reflect “H” in Morse code that stands for Hyundai.
The dashboard has a long touchscreen that extends from the driver’s side to the center just above the center console; it includes both a digital instrument and an infotainment system. Reports suggest that the production model will feature over-the-air software updates for the infotainment system, wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.
As of now, there are no details about its powertrain and performance. Many reports are claiming that it will get all from the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor with single-speed automatic reduction transmission on the front axle featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. Comes with two different LFP battery packs, which are 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh.
With the standard and large battery packs, it will give a range of 404 km and 490 km, respectively, and support a DC charger up to 100 kW, which takes 39 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging. Notably, the PMSM mounted on the front axle generates the power of 99 kW (133 hp) and 126 kW (169 hp) with the standard and larger battery pack, respectively, and gives the peak torque of 255 Nm (188 lb-ft) for both.
