BYD’s Luxury Brand Denza To Launch D9 Electric MPV In India Soon: What To Expect

Denza, the luxury automotive brand coming under Build Your Dreams, is preparing to introduce the Denza D9, a luxury executive multi-purpose vehicle, in the Indian market by importing it from China as a completely built unit, as per an Autocar India report. The most expected date for the launch in the Indian market is around the festive season, and if they delay the plan to do so by then, then it will definitely make its Indian appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027.

Internationally, the D9 is available for sale as a battery electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. In India, the Chinese automobile manufacturer is likely to introduce only the BEV version, because it affects only 5%, and PHEVs may face a high tax burden, which will make the vehicle costlier. They are all set to sell this model through the established dedicated Denza dealerships instead of the existing BYD dealerships, through which they sell the Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and eMax 7.

In China, the Denza D9 has been available for sale from August 23, 2022, as a BEV and PHEV. The battery electric vehicle version is available with both single-motor FWD and double-motor AWD drivetrains. The former generates 230 kW (308 hp) with torque of 360 Nm, and the latter delivers 275 kW (369 hp) and 470 Nm. They are both available with four different driving modes, which are Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow, and are equipped with a 103.36 kWh Blade Battery pack.

The transmission for both variants is a single-speed automatic. The CLTC range for the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants is 600 km and 620 km, respectively. The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 km/h for the FWD variant is 9.5 seconds and only 6.9 seconds for the AWD. The top speed for both variants is 180 kmph. Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 with 800V high-voltage architecture supporting DC charging up to 166 kW, which takes 30 minutes for 30 to 80 per cent charging.

It is still uncertain which drivetrain the Denza D9 will make its debut in the Indian market with which drivetrain. Of the two, the one with two electric motors, one on each axle, featuring a four-wheel-drive drivetrain, is expected to be launched in India because it is the top-end variant. Dimensionally, it is 5,250 mm longer; 1,960 mm wider with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm; and 1,920 mm taller. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/60 tyres and has a turning radius of 5.95 metres.

Features seating capacity of seven people in a two-two-three layout, meaning two individuals for co-passenger and driver in the front row, two captain seats in the second row, and three bench-like seats in the third row. Behind the third-row seats, it features a boot space of 410 litres that helps with carrying luggage; by folding the second-row and third-row seats, it is expandable up to 2,310 litres, enhancing practicality for carrying big pieces of luggage conventionally.

Inside, it has a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster under the two-spoke steering wheel and a 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen infotainment system at the centre of the dashboard. Also features a head-up display which projects the driving data on the windscreen. Other notable features are rear tray tables, an auto-dimming interior mirror, multi-colour ambient lighting, real wood trim, and a premium Dynaudio sound system.

Following the launch in the Indian market, the Denza D9 electrified MPV will compete with the MG M9, the Toyota Vellfire, and the Lexus LM. As it is coming to India as a completely built unit, we are expecting it to cost around ₹90. In Australia, they launched the model as a battery electric vehicle on March 2, 2026, with both FWD as the Premium variant and AWD drivetrain as the Grandeur, whose prices are AUD 89,990 and AUD 99,990, respectively, which translates to ₹60.30 lakh to ₹67.00 lakh.
