The BMW i5 LWB launched with the price of 79.60 lakh rupees with a 669 km MIDC range, 6.7 seconds 0 to 100 kmph acceleration, a long wheelbase, ventilated front seats, and decent boot space.
The BMW i5 LWB, the long-wheelbase version of the standard BMW i5 all-electric sedan, launched in the Indian market on September 7, 2026, with the ex-showroom price of 79.60 lakh rupees. BMW India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury carmaker, has officially started the delivery with the launch.
The booking for the First Edition and eDrive35L M Sport of the BMW i5 LWB e-sedan started on August 21, 2026; the former one went on booking with a limited 99 units, and all the units have already been sold out before the market launch; the latter doesn’t have any cap on the number of units.
The price for both variants is the same. BMW India has launched this model by locally assembling it at the BMW Group Chennai plant. Its main rival in India is the Lexus ES 500e, which costs ex-showroom 89.99 to 91.20 lakh rupees. Let’s have a closer look at this recently launched e-sedan.
Dimensions and space.
The length, width, and height of the i5 LWB are 5,175 mm, 2,156 mm, and 1,520 mm, respectively, with the wheelbase of 3,105 mm. Compared to its main rival, this BMW electric sedan is 30 mm longer with a 155 mm wheelbase and 236 mm wider, providing better legroom and shoulder room, but 55 mm shorter, with little less headroom.
A total of 5 seats are available inside the cabin in 2-3 configurations, with 2 individual seats available in the front row and 3 in a bench-like pattern in the second. Against the BMW i5 standard wheelbase model, the LWB has a more spacious cabin for the rear seating passengers; it enhances practicality and makes long journey travel more comfortable.
With the enhanced 110 mm length and 115 mm wheelbase, its cabin now looks more roomy and premium, making it more appealing for drivers looking for a premium EV sedan. The boot space remains 490 litres, which helps in carrying luggage. Seats in this model have a little more cushioning with a large size that also gives support to the thigh.
Exterior colour options and design.
A total of four exterior colour options are available; they are Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black, and Oxide Grey. At the front end, it boasts a BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille with illuminated surrounds, adaptive LED headlights, a sculpted hood, and side air curtains.
Its sides have flush-fitting door handles, 20-inch M alloy wheels, a flared wheel arch, blackout pillars, and A-pillar-mounted outside rear view mirrors integrating side indicators. The rear gets a slim twin horizontal LED taillight, a roof-integrated windscreen, a BMW logo on the tailgate, and a sporty bumper.
Features and technology.
Inside, the dashboard’s centre has a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs on BMW Operating System 8.5 and supports wireless smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Digital Key+, and connected car technology with over-the-air software updates.
Behind the steering wheel, it has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that shows all driving data. Key highlights from the feature list are a wireless phone charging pad at the front and rear, ventilated front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, and a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
As safety features, it gets 8 airbags, including two front, two side, two curtain, and two pelvic, ensuring minimal injury to occupants during the collision; Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Front and Rear Collision Warning, Lane Change Warning, Cross Traffic Warning, Exit Warning, and Parking Assistant Professional.
Powertrain and performance.
It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle, which is mated with a single-speed automatic transmission and puts out 268 hp maximum power and 410 Nm peak power. The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 kmph is 6.7 seconds, and the top speed is 195 kmph.
Its drivetrain is RWD. With the 81.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it gives a range of 669 km on MIDC condition. Its electrical architecture is 400 volts and supports a DC charger with a maximum output of 160 kW that takes only 33 minutes for 10 to 80 per cent charging.
