Kia Sorento Hybrid AWD Confirmed for India Ahead of September 4 Launch

Sharing a teaser video for the Kia Sorento Hybrid on X (formerly Twitter), Kia India, the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automobile manufacturer, has written a long caption about its launch in India, which says that this upcoming series hybrid SUV will make its debut in the Indian market as an all-wheel-drive car. The market launch is scheduled for September 4, 2026, with just 21 days to go from today.

By offering an AWD drivetrain, Kia India is making the Sorento Hybrid more appealing for the Indian driver who wants more stable cornering, improved hill climbing, better performance on loose surfaces, improved wet-weather stability, and better traction than rivals. Its booking already takes place from August 3, 2026, with the token amount of ₹25,000. Interested drivers who were uncertain about its AWD offering may exercise pre-orders.

The South Korean carmaker is all set to import it as a completely knocked-down unit and assemble it locally at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh to sell in the Indian market at competitive pricing. After making its debut in India, it is all set to give tough competition to seven-seater sport utility vehicles already on sale, such as the Toyota Fortuner, the MG Hector, the Skoda Kodiaq, the Jeep Meridian, and the Hyundai Tucson

The teaser video they have shared reveals the front-end and rear lighting signature. Upfront, it gets start-pattern T-shaped LED DRLs, vertically oriented LED headlamps, and bumper-integrated horizontal fog lamps. At the back, it has a squared-off bracket-shaped LED taillight. They are yet to fully reveal this upcoming SUV in India; it has been spotted multiple times on Indian roads, due to which many details on exterior features have emerged.

Its dashboard has a four-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons, under which there’s a 24.6-inch curved panoramic display that spreads out till the center of the dashboard, which has a 12.3-inch integrated touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The teaser confirms that it is equipped with Live Gen AI, a generative AI-powered voice assistant that can provide up-to-date and real-time information. Interior features are still pending; we are expecting it to get up to eight airbags, a level 2 advanced driving assistant system suite, a wireless phone charging pad, and ventilated front row seats. The six-seater variant may also have ventilated seats in the second row, a 360-degree camera, and a Bose premium audio system.

Powertrain details are still uncertain. Many reports are saying that under the hood, it will get a 1,598 cc 1.6-liter turbo-petrol 4-cylinder T-GDi internal combustion engine, a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, and a P4 electric motor on the rear. A lithium-ion polymer battery pack is set to be under the floor, supporting self-charging via regenerative braking.

The PMSM and ICE may be mated with a six-speed automatic transmission that generates the maximum power of 241 PS and peak torque of 380 Nm. Besides a strong hybrid, it will also come with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which delivers 193 PS power and 441 Nm torque. Nothing is official regarding its price; it is expected to cost ex-showroom ₹40 lakh.
