MG Set to Debut New Plug-In Hybrid SUV on July 16 With 1,100km Range

JSW MG Motors India, an Indian subsidiary of British automobile manufacturer MG that is owned by SAIC, has officially announced that it will debut a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in India on July 16, 2026. The model is anticipated to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, a plug-in hybrid electric sport utility vehicle, because they already have patented it for India in March 2026. 

The carmaker is yet to reveal the name, that they are going to market in India, although they have codenamed it as ‘520.’ The Wuling Starlight 560 is already available for sale in the internal market with a seating capacity of 7 people in a 2-3-2 layout. In terms of length, width, and height, it measures 4,745 mm, 1,850 mm, and 1,755 mm. The wheelbase of 2,800 mm ensures each one gets ample legroom.

Inside, it gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster under the two-spoke steering wheel that features physical buttons and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard that is integrated with a six-speaker sound system to ensure a good-quality audio experience inside the cabin.

On the center console, it features two 50W wireless phone charging pads and double cup holders for the convenience of the driver and co-passenger; just above the center console and below the infotainment system, it has slim horizontal air conditioning vents that keep the driver and co-passenger cool in summer and warm in winter.

It also gets a panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin airy; rear AC vents to provide coolness and warmth depending on the weather; keyless entry and push-button start for better practicality; automatic climate control to maintain the cabin temperature; and ventilated and powered front seats with leather upholstery for better comfort of front-seating passengers.

For safety, it is equipped with six airbags that play a crucial role in saving lives, and other features include a tire pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, and an advanced driver assistance systems suite to make driving stress-free.

Under the hood, it gets a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol-powered internal combustion engine that generates a maximum power of 106 hp and peak torque of 130 Nm, and an electric motor mounted on the front axle featuring front-wheel drive, which delivers the power of 197 hp and 230 Nm.

To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes 9.7 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 170 km/h. Equipped with a 20.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the floor, which gives the pure-electric CLTC range of 100 kilometers. As a PHEV, it has a fuel capacity of 52 liters; it is also full and runs up to 1,100 kilometers.

The one that JSW Motors India will unveil on July 16, 2026, is anticipated to have all the abovementioned specifications and features. Even though the exterior is set to be the same as the one already sold out in the international market. Notably, a few upgrades and changes are expected inside the cabin.

The upcoming one’s infotainment system is likely to be powered by an Android-based operating system and may support over-the-air software updates, connected car technology, AI-based voice control, and wireless multi-device connectivity via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth for video and audio streaming. 

The carmaker hasn’t yet confirmed that it will only reveal the model and launch sales. We are expecting that they will start taking orders with the unveiling, and the launch will happen in the following month. As of now, the prices are also pending, but there’s high speculation that it will cost ex-showroom starting from ₹22 lakh.
