Tata Motors Charts a 5-Year Course: 6 ICE, 4 EVs, 13 Lakh Units

On June 23, 2026, at the Investor Day meet, Tata Motors officially unveiled the plan for the next five years. By the financial year 2031, they are going to have 15 models of vehicles with internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. As of now, there are a total of 9 cars with ICE powertrains and 6 with electric. Meaning, in the next five years, they are going to launch 6 and 4 new models as ICE and electric vehicles, respectively.

In the lineup of traditional powertrains, the models that are available for sale are the Tata Tiago, Tata Altroz, Tata Tigor, Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, Tata Curvv, Tata Sierra, Tata Harrier, and Tata Safari; and models under the EV lineup are the Tata Tiago EV, Tata Tigor EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Tata Harrier EV. Between the timeline of FY2026 and FY2031, they will also introduce more than 20 facelifts and refreshes.

Notably, the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the upcoming six models under the ICE lineup; however, we have a rough idea about the electric lineup. The seventh pure-electric vehicle from the manufacturer will make its debut on June 30, 2026; it is going to be the Tata Sierra EV, a pure-electrified version of the ICE counterpart that is already available for sale in different variants.

After the launch of the Tata Sierra EV, the carmaker will introduce the Tata Safari EV, a flagship pure-electric seven-seater. Notably, it will make it possible for all EVs in the company’s portfolio. Tata Motors hasn’t confirmed any date for the launch, but many reports are suggesting that it will launch in India during the festive season of 2026.

Even the details regarding the ninth pure electric model from Tata Motors are available in the public domain. Notably, after Safari EV, they will introduce a fastback EV under the banner of Avinya, a sub-brand of Tata Motors for premium vehicles. Recently, its interior dashboard and steering wheel patent image got leaked, which reveals the first EV from Avinya will have a unique design.

The details regarding the tenth electric vehicle model are still undisclosed. Reportedly, the tenth one may also be under the Avinya lineup, because when the carmaker showcased the Avinya X concept, they said the launch of the fastback will follow an SUV debut.

In the meeting, the manufacturer not only revealed the upcoming plan but also shared their goal that they are aiming to achieve by the financial year 2031. They have an aim to achieve 30% market share in electric vehicles, 25% in CNG, and 25% in each where Tata Motors operates.

Currently, their annual production capacity is 9 lakh units from three different plants: the Pune Plant, the Sanand Plant, the Ranjangaon Plant, and the Panapakkam Plant, and in the next two to three years, they have made a plan to increase production to 13 lakh units annually with a new facility and structural expansion.

In May 2026, Tata Motors sold a total of 55,544 units, 2,144 fewer than in April 2026, registering month-on-month a decline of 3.72%, but compared to May 2025, it sold 15,656 more units in May, registering year-on-year growth of 39.25%.

Tata Motors is the company that holds the second position in May 2026 in Indian passenger vehicle sales, including ICE and electric. Notably, Maruti Suzuki is the company that has the biggest sales numbers. In May 2026, they sold 164,925 units, 109,381 units more than Tata Motors.
