Tata Motors has patented the dashboard with steering wheel design for the first electric vehicle under the banner of Avinya, a premium electric sub-brand; an image of the same has been leaked online, giving an idea of how its interior is expected to be. Let’s have a closer look at the details we found from the image.
Analysing the patent images, we find out that the very first EV from the Avinya will have a two-spoke steering wheel with ‘AVINYA’ lettering and very few physical buttons, under which a slim, fully digital instrument cluster will be available showing all the driving data, such as battery charging percentage, running speed, and much more for the driver’s convenience.
The centre of the dashboard is most expected to have a rectangular floating touchscreen infotainment system which features over-the-air software updates, connected car technology, and an AI-based voice assistant. Wireless connectivity via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth is certain to be available for video and audio streaming via the premium sound system.
Notably, the first electric vehicle from the Avinya is going to be a fastback with a sloping roofline, followed by a sport utility vehicle based on the Avinya X concept that was shown in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, which may be 4.3 m long with a wheelbase of 2.9 m, meaning the cabin is set to be quite spacious with ample legroom for the rear-seating passengers.

Initially, the carmaker planned to produce Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) platform, but now they have changed their decision; now the first EV under the banner of Avinya is set to be built on Chery-JLR’s ‘Freelander’ EV platform. As of now, there’s no date for its launch; reports suggest they may launch in the first half of 2027.
The concept shown in the most recent Bharat Mobility Global Expo, which took place 17 January 2025, has a radical design and aero-optimised body. Upfront, it gets T-shaped, full-width LED daylight running lights; LED main headlamps are integrated with the bumper at the corner; a closed-off grille improves aerodynamics; and bumper-integrated air intakes keep the battery pack and motor cool.
On the sides, it has a flush-type door handle for the front door, blackout window trims, and an outside rear-view mirror with integrated indicators; rear door handles are present on the C-pillar; and a large alloy wheels. And in the rear, it features full-width LED taillights, giving a modern touch; an integrated roof spoiler; a higher-mounted braking light; and a diffuser-style bumper.
The first EV under the Avinya sub-brand is expected to come with a dual-motor setup featuring all-wheel drive; it may get an induction motor on the front axle and a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle with single-speed automatic transmission. Reportedly, they may also introduce it with a single-motor rear-wheel drive drivetrain; however, the carmaker hasn’t released the specifications.
Notably, as of now, no details regarding the battery pack are available in the public domain. We are expecting that they will introduce a 100 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery pack. Like the Tata’s, its sub-brand may also come with two different battery pack configurations. If they plan to launch the first electric vehicle under the Avinya brand with two different battery packs, there’s high speculation that one with a large battery pack will come as AWD and RWD option will avail with the both.
