2026 VinFast VF8 Gen 2 Unveiled in Vietnam – FWD, 500 km Range at VND 999 Million
The Vietnamese automobile maker VinFast has unveiled the second-generation VinFast VF8, an all-electric sport utility vehicle, on May 20, 2026, for the domestic market, with many changes. Dimensionally, it is 4,701 mm in length, 1,872 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height.
The wheelbase is 2,840 mm, and the ground clearance is 170 mm. Compared to the old one, it is 49 mm shorter and 62 mm narrower, and even its wheelbase is reduced by 110 mm; but now it is 3 mm taller, and it has 8 mm more ground clearance, so it can easily move on the bad roads and pass the potholes.
Globally, it is to compete with the XPeng G6, BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Tesla Model Y. The second-generation VinFast VF8 has already received some changes to its exterior. Up front, it has a V-shape connecting LED daylight running lights; on the side end, below it, sharp main LED headlamps are placed.

On the sides, it features blackout window trims and aero-optimised ORVMs (outside rear-view mirrors) that enhance its in-profile look; chromed wheel arches with 19-inch double-tone alloy wheels improve its road presence; and flush-type door handles add premium appeal and reduce drag to improve efficiency.
The back also comes with a full-width LED taillight in a V-shape, creating the wide stance and mirroring the front-end lighting signature. Roof-integrated spoilers keep the car stable at high speed, and ‘VF8’ on the tailgate’s right side reflects the car’s identity. The black finish on the rear bumper makes it a little sportier.
Comes with the seating capacity of 5 people in the traditional layout of 2-3, meaning separate seats in the front end and three seats in the bench-type structure. It features a cargo capacity of 375 litres; compared to the old one, the cargo capacity is reduced by 161 litres. Folding the rear seats increases the boot space up to 1,373 litres, but the old one expands to 1,376, meaning there’s only a 3-litre difference.

The next generation also has a frunk (front storage trunk) of 78 litres that helps in carrying small luggage and items conveniently. Inside the cabin, the centre of the dashboard is equipped with a floating touchscreen infotainment system of 12.9 inches; compared to the old version, it is 2.7 inches smaller. Now, it gets a two-spoke steering wheel, under which a small TFT digital instrument cluster is visible.
Other notable features are an eight-speaker sound system, column-mounted gear selector, dual-zone climate control, six-way powered driver seat with memory function, 360-degree camera, advanced driving assistant system suite, electronic parking brake, and air purifier for clean air inside the cabin.
Offered with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that is mounted on the front axle, the setup makes it a front-wheel drive configuration electric car. It uses a single-speed automatic transmission, which is standard; its rivals also come with the same. The motor generates the maximum power of 228 bhp and peak torque of 228 Nm.
The acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h is under 8 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 160 km/h, as claimed by VinFast. Comes with a 61.13 kWh LFP battery pack, whose NEDC range is 500 km. Support fast DC charging, which takes only 30 minutes for 10 to 30 per cent charging.
Notably, the pre-order in Vietnam is confirmed to start on May 27, 2026, with the price of VND 999 million (INR 36.5 lakh or USD 37,890), after which the delivery will start in July 2026. Reportedly, there’s no confirmation regarding its launch in the Indian market, and many reports even suggest that it is very unlikely that they will introduce the second generation in India.
