2027 Hyundai i20: New Design Leaked, Hybrid & India Launch Expected

Hyundai, the South Korean automobile manufacturer, is all set to reveal the next-generation Hyundai i20, a premium hatchback set to be known as the 2027 model, in the very near future. Prior to which, it has been leaked online, revealing its exterior. At first sight, it looks more upright and rugged, and even its interior has received many upgrades to be a car with smart and high-tech features to make it more appealing.

Upfront, it features connected LED headlights, the full-width daylight running lights in Y-shape connect with the horizontally stacked dual-pod projector main headlights. Other notable features at the front-end is its simple grille design which makes its front fascia a little less cluttered than the outgoing Hyundai i20, and the brand logo is visible on the bonnet.

The side gets thick black wheel arch cladding, adding ruggedness; large dual-tone alloy wheels enhance its road presence; a crossover-like stance adds SUV characteristics; blackout A, B and C pillars add floating efficiency, making it eye-catching; mechanical door handles add practicality; and body-coloured ORVMs with integrated indicators.

The rear boasts connecting LED taillights with a full-width tailgate, and boomerang-style taillamps on the side create a wide stance and make it recognisable from the back; a chunky bumper with black cladding adds crossover styling, an integrated roof spoiler with a parking light, a roof-mounted antenna, a Hyundai logo on the tailgate, and a large windscreen.

Inside, the dashboard has a connected 24.6 inch panoramic display, which integrates a 12.3 inch under the three-spoke steering wheel showing all the driving data including mileage, speed, fuel, etc, and a 12.3 inch touch infotainment system at the centre of dashboard exactly about the central console which will act as control panel of cabin.

The infotainment may support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for voice streaming and Bluetooth for audio; to enhance the infotainment system, it is set to be equipped with a multi-speaker sound system. Hyundai Bluelink connected-car technology, an AI-based voice assistant and over-the-air software support are also expected.

Set to be introduced with a seating capacity of five people in 2-3 layouts. The leak also shows that below the touchscreen infotainment system, there are physical buttons for controls. Other reveals are double-toned door pads with circle-shaped speakers, which enhance cabin premiumness; and large boot space with ample space that can carry big luggage conveniently.

Dimensions aren’t yet revealed. The carmaker is expected to introduce it globally under the sub-4-metre segment, so we are expecting that the length may remain same as the outgoing model, that is, 3995 mm. The wheelbase, length, width, height, and ground clearance are expected to be increased by 20 mm, 5 mm, 25 mm, and 5 mm, respectively.

The current model has a boot space of 311 litres, and as they expect to introduce a little longer wheelbase compared to the existing one, a cargo capacity of more than 350 litres is anticipated, which may help in carrying two pieces of big luggage. Features of folding rear seating are also anticipated, which significantly increase the luggage-carrying space.

The carmaker will reveal the powertrain and performance details with the unveiling, which will happen soon. Reportedly, it will get a 1.2 litre four-cylinder MPI naturally aspirated petrol internal combustion engine under the hood, which may generate the maximum power of 82 hp and peak torque of 115 Nm.

It may be offered with both a five-speed manual gearbox and intelligent variable transmission and a single drivetrain that may be front-wheel drive. After revealing it, the carmaker is planning to launch it by late 2026. In India, Hyundai may introduce it by early 2027. It’s tough to say about its pricing, but we expect an ex-showroom cost of ₹10 lakh.
