Maruti Wagon R Bioflex Launched at ₹7.24 Lakh: India’s First E85 Fleet Hatchback

After revealing the flex fuel version of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R on June 4, 2026, the carmaker officially launched it on June 15, 2026, with the ex-showroom price of 7.24 lakh rupees. They have named it Wagon R Bioflex. Notably, it is based on the Wagon R’s ZXi+ 1.2P MT variant, which is already available for sale in the Indian market with the ex-showroom cost of 6.38 lakh rupees. Compared to the E20-compliant version, the one that can run on E85 fuel is just 86,000 rupees costlier.

The Wagon R Bioflex is now introduced only for fleet operators, meaning only companies like Ola and Uber can buy it and put it on the road for public transportation. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t yet hinted at anything about its launch for individual users, but we expect they may do so by the first half of 2027. We are expecting the launch soon because the Government of India (GOI) may have expanded E85 fuel stations in each district of the country.

Overall, the car remains the same as the original Wagon R, as no change has been made on the exterior or interior. Even the powertrain is the same, but they have upgraded its valves, internal components, and rubber seals so they last longer even in getting contact with ethanol, and they even lined up the fuel pipe with tough material to protect it from getting rusted and covered the outer part of the fuel pipe with a heat-resistant layer to ensure that it didn’t get damaged because of an excessively heated ICE.

Under the hood, it gets a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated internal combustion engine that is mated with a five-speed manual gearbox. They have yet to reveal the power output and peak torque with the E85 fuel; the one that is E20 compatible delivers a peak power of 91 hp and peak torque of 114 Nm, which helps it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.8 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 175. If the Wagon R Bioflex delivers lower power and torque, it will significantly impact acceleration timing and top speed too.

The carmaker is also yet to reveal the ARAI-certified mileage; the E20-compatible version has a fuel efficiency of 23.56 kmpl. As the E85 has only 15% petrol and 85% ethanol, we are expecting that the Wagon R Bioflex will offer a little less mileage. Autocar India reports that they did an E20 vs. E85 test on the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, a sports motorcycle that supports E20 to E85 fuel, like the Wagon R Bioflex, and found that the E85 gives 24.4% lower mileage than E20 fuel.

However, the test was done with a motorcycle, and it is yet to be seen how much mileage the Wagon R Bioflex will give with E85 fuel. If we reduce the 24.4% fuel efficiency from the 23.56 km/L mileage of the E20 Wagon R, we find that the recently launched, up to E85 compatible Wagon R will give the mileage of 17.82 km/L, with a difference of 5.74 km/L. It is also noticeable that E85 fuel is around 20 rupees cheaper than E20, and its carbon emissions are also so low that it is good for the environment.

Dimensionally, it remains the same; it measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. As a five-seater, it features the same boot space of 341 litres as the E20 variant, which helps in carrying luggage, and thanks to a wheelbase of 2,435 mm, all occupants get ample legroom to sit comfortably, and a ground clearance of 165 mm is good enough to pass the potholes and speed breakers easily. The exterior is the same, but the sides get flex fuel decals, and the rear features a BioFlex badge for branding.
