2.86 Sec to 100 kmph: India's Top 3 Superbikes Compared

In the Indian motorcycle market, dozens of superbike models are available for sale with different pricing in different segments; among them, the top 3 are the BMW S 1000 RR, the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Let’s have a closer look at each of these acclaimed motorcycles.

BMW S 1000 RR

The BMW S 1000 RR is available in three variants: Standard, Pro and M Sport, whose ex-showroom prices are ₹23.25 lakh, ₹26.00 lakh, and ₹28.90 lakh, respectively. It gets a 999 cc, inline-four-cylinder, oil/water-cooled four-stroke engine that is mated with the 6-speed constant-mesh manual gearbox.

The internal combustion engine delivers the power of 210 hp at 13,750 rpm and torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 km/h is 3.21 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 303 km/h. Its ARAI mileage is 15.6 km/l, with a fuel tank of 16.5 litres, giving a range of 257.4 litres.

It is built on an aluminium cast bridge-type frame, whose front suspension is 45 mm USD telescopic forks with 120 mm travel and an aluminium swingarm with a Full Floater Pro central monoshock with 118 mm travel. The front and rear wheel braking is managed by twin 320 mm floating discs and a single 220 mm disc.

The Suzuki Hayabusa is available only in a standard variant with the ex-showroom price of ₹18.06 lakh. It is powered by a 1,340 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, inline four-cylinder engine that is bolted to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. It is equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter featuring clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

The engine’s power output and peak torque are 192.6 hp at 9,700 rpm and 150 Nm at 7,000 rpm, respectively, which help it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.86 seconds and can sprint up to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its top speed is 299 km/h. The ARAI-certified mileage is 18 kmpl; with the fuel tank of 20 litres, it can run up to 320 kilometres.

It is built on a twin-spar aluminium perimeter frame featuring 43 mm KYB inverted cartridge forks as front suspension and KYB link-type monoshock as rear; notably, both are fully adjustable for spring preload, compression damping, and rebound damping. The front wheel gets dual 320 mm floating disc brakes, and the rear is equipped with a 260 mm disc.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is available for sale in India in a single standard variant with two double-tone options that are metallic Diablo Black and lime green. Notably, it costs an ex-showroom price of ₹20.79 lakh. Equipped with a 998cc, liquid-cooled, inline 4-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve engine with a bore and stroke of 76.0 mm x 55.0 mm, which is mounted with the six-speed cassette-style transmission.

The maximum output of the internal combustion engine is 200.22 hp at 13,200 rpm, and peak torque is 114.9 Nm at 11,400 rpm. In order to accelerate to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes 3 seconds, and up to 7.2 seconds to reach 7.2 seconds. Its maximum speed is also 299 km/h. Its ARAI mileage is 12 km, and with a fuel tank of 17 litres, it gives a range of 204 kilometres.

It is built on a rigid, lightweight twin-spar aluminium frame, whose front and rear transmissions are 43 mm Showa Balance Free Forks and Showa Horizontal Back-link, respectively. The braking for the front wheel is managed by 330 mm semi-floating Brembo discs, and the rear with a single 220 mm disc featuring the Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Brake System.
