SAIC Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S Presale Starts at $17,177 With 160-km EV Range

In our previous report, we reported we have covered that SAIC Volkswagen will launch the ID. ERA 5S in September 2026 in the Chinese market, and it seems to be true, as they have started the presale on August 11, 2026, hinting at its launch in the following month, because it usually happens in China that a market launch takes place within a month after the start of the presale. 

They have started the pre-sale, announcing the limited-time promotional offer to start the sales journey with good numbers. Volkswagen fans in China were waiting for the start of the presale of this upcoming plug-in hybrid electric sedan; now they may book a slot to be among the drivers who will get delivery shortly after the market launch. 

Presale Price 

The SAIC-Volkswagen ID. ERA 5S plug-in hybrid electric sedan will come to the Indian market in four variants, whose regular price starts from 119,900 yuan (17,769 USD) and goes up to 149,900 yuan (22,214 USD). The limited-time promotional offer price ranges from 115,900 to 145,900 yuan, which translates to 17,177 to 21,619 USD. 

Dimensions & Exterior 

The length, width, and height of the ID. ERA 5S sedan are 4,836 mm, 1,880 mm, and 1,505 mm, respectively. Its wheelbase is 1,505 mm, and drag coefficient is 0.247. Sit on 19-inch alloy wheels. Outside, it has full-width LED daylight running lights, front bumper-integrated headlights, lower active air intakes, and flared wheel arches.

Other notable exterior features are semi-hidden flush-type door handles, blacked-out pillars, a panoramic sunroof, a large rear windshield, A-pillar-mounted outside rear-view mirrors with integrated horizontal-shape LED blinkers, a full-width LED taillight, a minimalistic tailgate, and a horizontal-shape reflector on the rear bumper.

Engine & Motor Setup 

The ID. ERA 5S gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine under the hood, whose power output is 80 kW (109 hp), and a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, which delivers the power of 130 kW (117 hp). The ICE and PMSM are mated with dedicated hybrid transmissions.

Under the floor, it has a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from REPT Battero, which gives the emission-free CLTC range of 160 km. With the fuel efficiency of 2.82 liters per 100 km with a depleted battery, it can run 1,840 km. The combined range, when the battery pack is fully charged and the fuel tank is also full, is 165 km.

The top speed is 160 km/h. To charge the vehicle from 30 to 80 percent, it takes 15 minutes. Notably, the acceleration timing for 0 to 100 km/h, maximum speed, battery pack capacity, and other details are still pending. SAIC Volkswagen, the joint venture between SAIC and Volkswagen, will disclose these details with the launch.

Key Features 

At the center of the dashboard, the ID. ERA 5S gets a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard featuring an AI voice assistant co-developed with iFlytek and supporting wireless connectivity via Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar, and Carlink. Under the two-spoke double D-shape steering wheel, it has a slim digital instrument cluster showing all the driving-related information clearly.

Its central console has a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad to charge the phone conveniently without plugging in and cup holders for enhancing the practicality. Other notable features are a 10-point seat massage function, 255-color ambient lighting, and 145-degree reclining for the front passenger seat; and it also has a lie-flat mode to create a bed-like structure by meeting with the rear seat.
