MG Teases New Electric Hatchback Ahead of Goodwood Reveal on July 9

The British automobile manufacturer MG (Morris Garages), owned by Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor, has teased an electric vehicle prior to its unveiling by Jozef Kabaň, renowned Slovak automotive designer, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026 on 9 July 2026.

Reportedly, it is a B-segment all-electric hatchback, which they are set to introduce to the European market in 2027. At the event, slated to take place on July 9, 2026, the carmaker will show two pure-electric concepts. Notably, the recently tested one is one of them. They have released two images showing the front-end and rear look.

The first image hints that, at the front-end, this hatchback gets a closed-off grill to ensure better aerodynamics, resulting in better efficiency; gloss-black trims on the nose create a wide stance and also give it a modern touch; 3D pixel LED headlamps add a high-tech look, and it may feature custom lighting; and a smooth bonnet with the MG logo reflecting brand identity.

At the back, it gets a tapered roofline giving a sportier profile which also reduces drag ensuring better efficiency, roof-integrated spoilers improve airflow and help the vehicle stay stable even at high speed, a raked windshield creates a dynamic appearance; and pixel-style LED tail-lamps mirroring the front-end lighting signature.

Reportedly, this upcoming all-electric hatchback from MG Motors will compete with the Renault 5 E-Tech, Volkswagen ID. Polo, Nissan Micra, Mini Cooper Electric, Cupra Raval and Peugeot E-208. They are models that are available for sale in the European market with prices from €23,000 to €35,000. So, we expect that the upcoming MG’s e-hatchback will cost around €30,000.

Notably, the carmaker hasn’t revealed any specification and features for this electric hatchback concept, or the other one which they will reveal on July 9, 2026. As of now, MG Motors is selling pure-electric hatchback models in the European market; they are the MG4 EV Urban and MG4 EV. The upcoming model will add a third model in the line-up.

We anticipate that the upcoming e-hatchback will sit in the profile above MG4 EV Urban and below MG5 Electric. They launched the former one in Europe back in January 2026. In Germany, the carmaker introduced it in March 2026 in three variants that are Comfort Standard Range, Comfort Long Range, and Premium Long Range, whose prices are €24,990, €28,500, and €31,500, respectively.

It is available with two LFP battery packs that are 43 kWh and 54 kWh, whose WLTP range is 325 km and 416 km, respectively. Equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the front axle. It has a single-speed automatic transmission and features a front-wheel drive drivetrain. Support DC charger up to 87 kW, which takes 28 to 30 minutes for 10-80% charging.

The motor delivers the power of 149 hp and 160 hp with standard and larger battery packs, respectively. With both battery packs, the motor generates the peak torque of 250 Nm. To accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph, it takes 9.5 seconds, and the top speed is 160 kmph. On the other hand, the carmaker introduced the latter back in September 2022, and it is now available for sale with a starting price of €42,990.

It is available in three variants that are standard, long range and extended range, which are equipped with 51 kWh, 64 kWh and 77 kWh, respectively. The first one has a WLTP range of 350 km, the second has 525 km, and the third has 545 km. It supports a DC charger up to 154 kW, which takes a minimum of 25 minutes for 10-80% charging.

It gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a single-motor automatic gearbox on the rear axle featuring a rear-wheel drive drivetrain. The motor delivers the power of 170 hp, 203 hp, and 245 hp with 51 kWh, 64 kWh, and 77 kWh lithium-ion battery packs, respectively, and peak torque for the first two is 250 Nm, but for the last one it is 350 Nm.
