Mahindra Auto, the Indian automobile manufacturer, showcased the Mahindra Vision T, a rugged sport utility vehicle concept, on 15 August 2025 during Mahindra’s Freedom_NU event, revealing the future direction of the Thar family. Recently, the carmaker has patented it in India; the patent image shows that it is quite similar to the concept.
The concept showcased last year on the occasion of Independence Day reveals that it has an off-road SUV-inspired bold and upright body. Features a six-slot illuminated grille, a rugged bumper with air intakes and an auxiliary light, and a clamshell bonnet. Get vertical LED daylight running lights and squared LED headlamps, including high-beam and low-beam.
On the sides, squared-off black wheel arch cladding and lower body cladding add SUV characteristics. Its front door boasts blacked-out ORVMs in a squared shape. It features mechanical handles on the front door, and handles for the rear door are available on the C-pillar. Also features a footstep for easier ingress and egress and double-toned alloy wheels with knobby off-road tyres.
The rear gets a large windscreen to get a clear view of the back through the inside rear-view mirror. Features a side-opening tailgate, which has a spare wheel. On the edge of the tailgate, it has square-shaped LED taillamps. To enhance the rear view, it gets a rugged bumper like the front end. It also has a braking light at the rear, which you can see on the upper end of the windscreen.
At Mahindra’s Freedom_NU event, they didn’t showcase just the exterior of the concept but the interior too. Inside, it has a three-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons for better practicality. On the dashboard, just below the driver’s seat, it features a digital instrument cluster showing driving data such as drive mode selection, navigation guidance, ADAS and safety alerts, and others.
The centre of the dashboard will feature a horizontally orientated touchscreen infotainment system, which is all set to feature wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Even Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity are anticipated. Connected car technology with over-the-air software and AI-based voice assistants is certain.
Zooming in on the interior image that is available across the show, just below the centrally mounted screen, it also has a climate control screen, which not only makes the cabin premium but also adds convenience. Just below the climate control screen, many physical buttons are available for control and settings for the vehicle. Its centre console even shows a wireless phone charging pad.
Nothing about its dimensions is confirmed. Many reports suggest that it measures more than 4.3 metres with a wheelbase of around 2.9 metres. The image of the Vision T concept, showcased last year, clearly shows that it is set to have ground clearance of around 220 mm to make it off-road compatible. They will reveal actual dimensions with launch; due to the upright stance, the cabin is set to be spacious.
As of now, there’s no word about the powertrain. Notably, the NU_IQ modular multi-energy platform, which supports three different powertrains, including internal combustion engine, hybrid electric, and pure electric. The carmaker is expected to first introduce the model with a petrol-powered ICE, and then we may get to the launch of the HEV and the EV.
Even nothing about the launch of the SUV based on the Mahindra Vision T concept is confirmed. They haven’t even announced the nameplate. Many reports suggest that it will come as the next-generation Thar ROXX, replacing the existing one, somewhere in 2027, with the ex-showroom price starting from ₹18 lakh for the ICE version.
