Mahindra Auto, the automobile manufacturer, will soon launch the Mahindra Vision S. This is an upcoming sub-4-meter SUV that they will introduce to the domestic market with different powertrains, including petrol, diesel, electric, hybrid, and potentially flex-fuel. It has already been spotted camouflaged multiple times on Indian roads, giving a rough idea about its exterior.
Recently, an automotive enthusiast, ‘Torque Bhai,’ shared the latest spy video of this upcoming SUV’s test mule on Instagram, in which the exterior is still camouflaged, but the highlight is that we also get a glimpse of the interior. The video clearly shows a gearbox on the center console, indicating that the company will initially launch a petrol or diesel-powered vehicle; an electric or alternative powertrain version might be introduced later.
It features a two-spoke steering wheel with ‘BE’ lettering, resembling the one found in the Mahindra BE 6. It’s very unlikely the manufacturer will use this specific steering wheel for the production model. As of now, they may have been used only for testing purposes, and the production version will almost certainly feature a different steering wheel.
Under the steering wheel, there may be a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, which will display driving data such as speed, fuel levels, and other details. The video also reveals a square-shaped infotainment system at the center of the dashboard; its exact size remains to be determined but is likely to support OTA software updates.
It is certain that the infotainment touchscreen will come with wireless connectivity via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth for video and audio streaming. It may also feature a voice assistant, built-in navigation, and connected car technology; however, the carmaker is yet to confirm these features.
The air conditioning vents for the front row are dashboard-integrated and look similar to the one that was showcased in the concept. The same structure for AC vents is also found on the Thar Roxx or Scorpio N. A handle for the driver’s easy ingress and egress is also visible, similar to the Thar.
It may also feature a panoramic sunroof, a level 2 advanced driving assistant system suite, a wireless phone charging pad, ventilated and powered front seats, 360-degree front and rear parking sensors, automatic climate control, multiple compartment storage, and others to ensure better comfort and convenience for all occupants.
Outside, it features an upright stance, most likely to get an L-shaped daylight running light with integrated headlights and a wide grille on the front fascia for giving a modern touch. A chunky bumper on the front and rear with a skid plate and sculpted bonnet is also anticipated for underbody safety.
Set to come with a flat roofline, it ensures a spacious cabin with ample headroom; door handles are set to be flush type to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics, and wheel arches with thick black cladding are certain to provide a rugged appearance. Other highlights are roof-integrated spoilers, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and slim vertical taillamps.
The carmaker is developing this model on Mahindra NU IQ multi-energy architecture, which is a monocoque (unibody) construction. The petrol-powered and diesel-powered variants will make their debut with both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive drivetrains. Reportedly, it will feature independent rear suspension to provide better comfort and handling over the traditional set-up.
No details regarding the powertrain have been officially released by the manufacturer, but it is expected to be offered with a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged internal combustion engine. The petrol version might be launched first, followed by the diesel, or the carmaker may introduce both variants to the market simultaneously.
