The Mahindra Thar has been available for sale in the Indian market since December 2010, after which the second-generation made its debut in October 2020. The first facelift for this off-road sport utility vehicle arrived in October 2025, and the second of the same is set to make its debut in the last quarter of 2026.
The second facelift of the three-door Thar is set to be known as the year-2027 model. This upcoming SUV has already been spotted testing on public roads in India multiple times. New spy shots of the test mule are floating on the internet, which has revealed the fresh details for this upcoming car.
Its earlier spy shots indicate that the facelift will have a grill similar to the Thar Roxx. A recent spied image shows that it has a four-bar slatted grille with a horizontal strip. The horizontal space on the grill may be used for the brand’s emblem. It is clear now that the new grill design is more rectangular than we get to see on the outgoing model’s grille.
Compared to the previous test mule grill, the recently spotted vehicle has a totally different design. It seems that the carmaker will launch the model with a different grille design depending on the variant. Other than the grill, the rest of this test mule are the same as the previous spotting.
These recent spied images clearly reveal that it will have round LED headlights that integrate both daylight running light and headlamp and five-spoke alloy wheels being bracketed by the rugged black wheel arch cladding. This facelift will have main changes on the exterior and front end; a few tweaks and improvements are also expected for the sides and rear.
The dimensions of this car are set to remain the same as its facelift, and there won’t be any changes in the seating layout and boot space. Like the exterior, the cabin is also set to get a few upgrades and refreshments, such as updated upholstery and revised window and dashboard trim.
No details regarding the change inside the cabin are officially confirmed, and even there are no interior spied images as of now. The report suggests Mahindra may launch this model by retaining most of its features and updating a few of them to enhance the cabin aesthetic to make it more appealing.
Inside, the addition of Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, auto-folding ORVMs, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry, push-button start, and an auto-dimming IRVM are expected. These features may also come with the top-end variant; the base and mid-level trims are also expected to get new features.
It is confirmed that the upcoming Thar facelift will debut with the same powertrain that is offered with the outgoing. The carmaker is all set to launch it with three different internal combustion engines, which are 2.0L mStallion turbo-petro, 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol, and 2.2L mHawk diesel.
The 1.5L diesel will go on sale only with 6-speed manual transmission with RWD drivetrain, and both 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes with RWD and AWD, and AWD, respectively.
The power output for 1.5L diesel, 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol, and 2.2L mHawk diesel is 117 hp, 150 hp, and 130 hp, respectively. The peak torque is 300 Nm for diesel engines, and the same for the only petrol engine is 300 Nm for MT and 320 for AT.
As of now, there’s no confirmed date for the launch of the sports utility vehicle. The most anticipated days for list launch are in Diwali 2026. After the launch, it will strengthen its positioning against the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha 3-Door.
