Kia India, the Indian subsidiary of South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia, is aiming to have eight locally manufactured electrified vehicles for the domestic market by 2029. Among them two are already on sale: Carens Clavis EV and Syros EV, and the upcoming six are the Sorento HEV, Carnival HEV, Seltos HEV, Sonet HEV, Carens HEV, and B-segment SUV EV.
Notably, the carmaker has already confirmed the date for the third model, the Sorento HEV; it is September 4, 2026. In 2026, one more hybrid electric vehicle will make its debut in India, the Carnival HEV. They haven’t officially confirmed any date for its launch, but reports suggest that it will debut around the festive season.
In 2027, the Seltos HEV launch is planned, and then in 2028, the Sonet HEV will be introduced after getting the next-generation Sonet ICE in 2027. The year 2026 is planned for the next-gen Carens Clavis EV, replacing the existing one; the HEV will also make its debut in the same year. A pure-electric B-segment SUV is all set to make its debut in the same year.
What do we know about the upcoming Kia’s HEVs and EVs?
The Carens Clavis EV, a seven-seater all-electric multi-purpose vehicle, which is on sale in the Indian market with the ex-showroom price from July 15, 2025, and the Syros EV, a five-seater pure-electric compact sport utility vehicle, from July 30, 2026. The second one debuted almost a year later. As of now, there’s no HEV under the banner of Kia on sale.
On September 4, 2026, the first HEV with the Sorento nameplate will arrive as a six-seater and seven-seater getting a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid that will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian. The booking for the same is already taking place from August 3, 2026; drivers interested in buying may show interest by exercising this option.
The second HEV, Carnival, which may come to the Indian market around late October 2026, made its global debut in February 2024 at the Chicago Auto Show. Under the bonnet, it will have the same powertrain as the Sorento HEV. The next-generation Seltos is already on sale in India from January 2026; the HEV for the same will arrive in 2027; details regarding its powertrain are still pending.
The Sonet ICE has been on sale in India since September 2020 and gets a mid-life upgrade in January 2024. Its next-generation launch is slated for 2027 with ICE; a year after that the HEV will make its debut. The Carens Clavis EV will get a next generation with many upgrades on specifications and features in 2029. Shortly after the next-generation EV counterpart launch, an HEV will arrive.
And the all-electric B-segment SUV, which is still undisclosed, will make its debut most probably by 2029; it will measure around 4.2 metres and sit above the Syros EV and below the Carens Clavis EV in the pure-electric line-up. Following the launch in the Indian market, it will compete with the Tata Punch EV, the upcoming Hyundai Exter EV, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV.
Sales Target & Dealer Network
Kia India has planned to increase its sales in the domestic market up to 4.1 lakh units annually by 2030, covering a market share of 7.6%. Notably, last year, they sold a total of 2.8 lakh units with 6.3% market share. If the South Korean automobile manufacturer is able to achieve the goal by the set timeline, their annual sales will increase by 1.3 lakh units with a 1.3% increase in market share.
Notably, Kia made its entry in the Indian market for the passenger vehicle segment back in August 2029; since then, they have opened 415 authorised showrooms in 251 cities across more than 30 states and union territories. By 2030, they have planned to increase the number of dealerships to 800 with the main focus on the Tier-3 and Tier-4 cities.
