The Indian subsidiary of South Korean automobile manufacturer hasn’t yet disclosed the date on which they are going to launch the Kia Carnival HEV. As the festive season is about to arrive, we are anticipating that they will launch it around the same time. Confirming the arrival of a strong hybrid for this MPV, Kia India has revealed the powertrain details.
Kia Carnival HEV confirmed for India.
Kia India has officially confirmed the Kia Carnival that is now available with diesel-powered ICE will go on sale with the strong hybrid. The upcoming HEV version is set to get a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE that puts out 180 hp power and 265 Nm, the same as the one offered with the recently launched Sorento HEV, and an electric motor that delivers 73.4 hp power and 304 Nm torque; compared to the Sorento HEV’s e-motor, it has 8.4 hp more power and 40 Nm more torque.
Notably, the carmaker is yet to reveal the details on the transmission and drivetrain. Reports suggest that the electric motor is set to be mated with the 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, and the drivetrain for the base to mid-level trims will be front-wheel-drive, and all-wheel-drive for the top trim. Kia India will reveal all the pending details for the strong-hybrid version at launch events, the date for which will be confirmed soon by themselves.
With the upgrades in the powertrain, the fuel efficiency for the Kia Carnival will improve significantly, saving a lot on fuel expenses, and top speed and acceleration timing are also certain to be better than the existing one. The upcoming hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) version is all set to provide quieter operation, instant electric-motor torque, smoother stop-start operation, and regenerative braking that will charge back the battery.
The rest for the Kia Carnival HEV remains the same as the diesel.
The length, width, and height will measure 5,155 mm longer with a 3,090 mm wheelbase, 1,995 mm wider, and 1,775 mm taller. Set to be available with seating capacity of 7 people and 8 people in 2-2-3 and 2-3-3 layouts, respectively. The seven-seater version will be for a large family looking for premium comfort in the second row with executive seating, as its second row has captain chairs, and the eight-seater version will be for families with four children and both grandparents.

The seven-seater variant is set to have ventilation and heating features for the second-row seats. In the first row, both the 7- and 8-seater will get a 12-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support and memory function and an 8-way powered front passenger seat. Other goodies that are confirmed inside the cabin are 64-color ambient lighting, tilt and telescopic steering, paddle shifters, and auto-dimming IRVM.
