Hyundai Bayon HX10 iVT vs Tata Sierra Turbo AT

The Hyundai Bayon and the Tata Sierra are mid-size SUVs. They are on sale in the Indian market in multiple variants. Depending on the trim, the features and prices vary. The top-end variant of the former one is HX10 iVT, but the same for the latter is Accomplished Plus Turbo Petrol AT. Here, we have come up with a comparison between them. Let’s have a closer look at the Hyundai Bayon vs. the Tata Sierra top-end variant.

Seating and dimensions.

As per Hyundai, the recently launched Bayon has a length, width and height of 4,245 mm, 1,810 mm and 1,605 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and ground clearance of 205 mm. But the Sierra measures 4,340 mm longer, 1,841 mm wider, and 1,715 mm taller with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, but its ground clearance isn’t disclosed.

It means, in terms of length, width, height, and even wheelbase, the Tata Sierra is the one who leads. Compared to the Hyundai Bayon, it has a 95 mm longer, 31 mm wider, and 110 mm taller body. Despite being only 95 mm longer, the Tata car has 130 mm more wheelbase that not only enhances stability but also makes the cabin more spacious.

Notably, both the Tata and Hyundai cars have a seating layout of 2-3, but the latter model is the one which has better legroom, headroom, and shoulder. It means the Tata car has better second-row seating comfort. If we talk about the boot space, it is 505 litres for the Bayon, but the same for the Sierra is 622 litres, 117 litres more, which helps with better big luggage carrying practicality.

Powertrain and performance.

The HX10 iVT of Hyundai Bayon is equipped with the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol-powered internal combustion engine delivering 115 PS power and 143.8 Nm torque, but the Accomplished Plus Turbo Petrol AT gets Sierra and gets the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder ICE, but it is turbocharged, which puts out 160 PS and 255 Nm.

It is clear that the Sierra is the model which has better performance than the Bayon; it generates 45 PS more power and 111.2 Nm more than that. More power and more torque mean the Tata car feels stronger, quicker, and less strained when driving. Notably, the Bayon’s ICE is mated with the iVT, but the Sierra’s with a 6-speed torque-converter AT.

The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency for both Bayon and Sierra has been made public by the respective manufacturer. Hyundai says that its mid-size SUV gives a mileage of 18.60 kmpl if certain conditions are met, but the same for the Tata vehicle is 15.30 kmpl. Here’s the Hyundai car leading with the 3.30 kmpl more fuel efficiency.

Features and technology.

The recently launched Hyundai Bayon HX10 iVT gets two 12.3-inch displays on the dashboard; they are integrated in curved panoramic displays, one is placed behind the steering wheel, and the other is on the centre of the dashboard. This screen is mated with a Bose 8-speaker sound system, which also has a subwoofer to ensure an immersive audio experience.

On the other hand, the Tata Sierra Accomplished Plus Turbo Petrol AT gets only a 12.3-inch screen at the centre of the dashboard, but the screen behind the steering wheel as a digital instrument is 10.24-inch. Its driver display is 2.06-inch small, but its sound system includes 12 speakers adding the Dolby Atmos. This means this Tata car has 4 more speakers, ensuring a better audio experience than the Hyundai model.

Ex-showroom price.

The Hyundai Bayon HX10 iVT is available for sale with the ex-showroom price of ₹18 lakh, but the same for the Tata Sierra Accomplished Plus Turbo Petrol AT is ₹21 lakh. They are the fully fledged version; compared to the latter one, the former one is affordable by ₹3 lakh.

The Hyundai Bayon fully fledged version is ideal for a small family who want a car with better fuel efficiency and decent performance in the mid-size SUV segment under ₹20 lakh, but the second is a good choice for a family of 5 adults who need a spacious cabin and a large boot.
