BYD Showcases Sealion 08 at Beijing Auto Show 2026: Sprints 0-100 km/h in Under 5 Seconds

BYD, a Chinese automobile manufacturer, has revealed the Sealion 08, a full-size all-electric SUV, at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. In the company portfolio, it is positioned above its sibling Sealion 7, a flashing model under the Ocean series. Its launch for the domestic market may happen around the second quarter with a price of around 300,000 yuan, and then it will come to the international market.

It comes with a seating capacity of 5 people with a layout of 2-3 and 6 people in a configuration of 2-2-2. The five-seater gets the large boot space, and the six-seater gets a captain’s seat in the second row for comfortable seating. Its dimensions in terms of length, width, and height are 5,115 mm, 1,999 mm, and 1,800 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, is 3,030 mm.

CLTC-Range: 800 KM

The Sealion 08 is equipped with two permanent magnet synchronous motors, one mounted with the front axle and another with the rear axle. The set-up makes its all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle, whose transmission is single-speed automatic, standard in the segment. Its power output is 643 hp (480 KW), which makes its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h under 5 seconds. 

The top speed is yet to be revealed but is anticipated to be around 200 km/h. The brand will soon disclose the battery pack details, but a report says that it can get a 130.5 kWh LPF Blade 2.0 battery, the same as its other sibling, Great Tang. BYD has already revealed its CLTC range; it runs 900 km on a full charge. It supports flash charging up to 1.5 MW that takes 9 minutes for 10-97% charging. 

20/21-Inch Alloy Wheels 

The exterior features Marine Aesthetics’ design language. Up front, it gets slim, elongated LED headlights that stretch towards the fender and give a wider look. Like other EVs from BYD, it does get a closed-off grill for modern styling. Its bumper at the front is sculpted with subtle air channels for better airflow, and it also gives a simple look.

On the sides, its long wheelbase creates a luxury sport utility vehicle silhouette. The door handles are flush-type to give a premium touch and improve efficiency by enhancing the aerodynamics. To run on the road, the vehicle is equipped with 20/21-inch alloy wheels that provide better grip, and its arches are slightly flared, which makes its stance muscular without a bulky look.

The rear of the vehicle features a full-width LED taillight bar to make appearances wider and enhances premiumness during the night. The tailgate comes with a clean surface for the modern styling and also gets a roof-mounted spoiler to back up the added sporty touch. Overall its rear look is neat and clean.

LiDAR-Based ADAS 

Nothing about the Sealion 08’s interior is made public. Looking at the expected pricing, it seems that its interior is going to be full of technology and convenience features like other EVs from the BYD in the same segment. It is expected to be equipped with a large rotatable touchscreen infotainment system at the center that will work as the control panel.

The cabin is certain to get a driver display, i.e., a digital instrument cluster that shows driving data and navigation. A separate screen for rear-seating passengers may be available in top trim. The front seats are most likely to be zero-gravity and electronically adjustable, which also features ventilation, heating, and massage functions for a comfortable journey.

It may get a wireless charging pad and multiple USB ports for phone charging. The multicolor ambiance is highly expected to enhance mood during the night travel. It is certain that the car will feature LiDAR-based ADAS, as LiDAR is mounted on the roof, which makes the driving semi-autonomous and gives a stress-free driving experience.
