Audi A2 e-tron Previewed Ahead Of Autumn Debut; 190 hp RWD EV Targets 453 km Range

Audi, a German premium automobile manufacturer, previewed the Audi A2 e-tron, an upcoming all-electric compact hatchback, on August 4, 2026, to build anticipation and highlight its achievements. They have revealed its exterior design through camouflaged prototype images; the full reveal is scheduled for the autumn 2026 global debut. 

It is set to go on sale in the European market in late 2026. The preview image shared by the carmaker doesn’t reveal what the exterior gets but gives a rough idea about its design. Upfront, it has lower air intakes to keep the battery pack and electric motor cool, Audi’s four-ring logo at the center to reflect branding, and L-shaped air curtains. 

Other notable features on the exterior are dotted horizontal-shaped LED daytime running lights to enhance its visibility to other road users during the day and a closed-off grille to enhance the aerodynamics. The main headlights are placed just below the DRLs in a rectangular shape to illuminate the road for night driving. 

On the sides, it has wheel arch cladding to enhance the in-profile view and double-toned alloy wheels, which are unlikely to be found in the production model. Its outside rearview mirror has integrated blinkers mounted on the front door, and door handles are totally hidden to reduce drag and improve efficiency; they are flush-type, which also enhances the premiumness.

The rear has a through-type horizontal-shaped taillight to create a wide stance; between the taillight strips, it has a four-ring Audi logo to reflect the brand identity. Above the windshield, it has a roof-integrated spoiler that enhances stability at high speed. Features a rugged bumper, which has a vertical-shaped reflector to enhance nighttime visibility for other road users. 

By previewing the images, they have also revealed the technical details. It will be available for sale globally, with the rear-wheel-drive drivetrain getting a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle, which moves the wheels by getting power from a 61 kWh lithium-ion battery pack whose usable capacity is 58 kWh.

The electric motor code is APP350; white APP stands for Axial Parallel Position, and 350 reflects its peak torque in Nm. It is developed by Volkswagen Group for its MEB+ electric vehicle platform. Notably, its maximum power output is 140 kW, which translates to 190 hp, and peak torque is 350 Nm.

Gernot Döllner, Audi’s CEO, claims that it has an energy efficiency of 12.8 kWh per 100 km on the WLTP cycle when equipped with the Efficiency Package, although they found it in preliminary testing; we will get to know the final figure with the launch of the model. As of now, they haven’t revealed the WLTP range.

With the preliminary energy efficiency, in case it is equipped with the efficiency package and usable battery pack, it may run up to 453 km on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. Without the Efficiency Package, it would run up to only 423 km in the same condition.

As per the German luxury automobile brand, no vehicle from the brand has achieved this energy efficiency. This is going to be the most energy-efficient electric vehicle from Audi, thanks to its aerodynamic design, a 0.24 drag coefficient, and less energy-consuming drivetrain technology and battery engineering. 

The Audi A2 e-tron is combined with vehicle-to-load, with a maximum output of 2.3 kWh, which helps with running external electrical devices. It will also feature vehicle-to-home, in which the vehicle is connected to a compatible bidirectional home charger to power the home during a power outage.
