Yamaha has finally launched the YZF-R2 for the Indian market on August 27, 2026; they have introduced the model in three variants. These are the R2 with the ex-showroom price of ₹2.30 lakh, the R2 Quick Shifter with ₹2.39 lakh, and the R2 M with ₹2.53 lakh in New Delhi. The pre-booking for this all-new motorcycle is August 12, 2026, with the amount of ₹10,000, and the delivery for the same is all set to begin in mid-September 2026.
Drivers who exercise the option of pre-booking are all set to get the delivery preference. In the brand’s bike lineup, it sits above the R3. The launch of this motorcycle has added the third model in the R family, besides the R2 and R3; another model is the R15. The newly introduced model is available for sale alongside the MT-15 and XSR 155. The on-road price for these models varies from one another for cities because of road taxes and other charges.
This new motorcycle from Yamaha is powered by a 204cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol-powered internal combustion engine with the DLC valve coating that we also get to see in the brand’s flagship offering, the R1, which delivers 26.5 hp at 10,000 rpm power and 19.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm torque. The ICE is mated with a six-speed manual gearbox. It has ride-by-wire, traction control, and three driving modes, including Sport, Street and Rain.
It has assist and slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter. The bi-directional quickshifter is available only for the R2 Quick and R2 M variants. The length, width and height of the Yamaha R2 are 1,990 mm, 720 mm, and 1,135 mm, respectively. The wheelbase measures 1,135 mm, ground clearance 135 mm, and seat height 810 mm. Its kerb weight is 149 kg, making it the lightest motorcycle in the segment, enhancing daily driving practicality, and its fuel tank capacity is 14 litres.
A total of five colour options are available. The metallic black and dark bluish grey are available for the first variant, matte white pearl and racing blue for the second one, and metallic grey for the most costly trim. It is built on an all-new R2-specific chassis with the 37mm USD forks at the front and monoshock at the rear with the preload adjustment for the top-end variant. Equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, they both have solid disc brakes with double-channel anti-locking brakes.
The top variant features Adjustable clutch lever to help with setting the most comfortable finger position, faux-suede split seat giving premium seating comfort for both rider and pillion, and smart keyless system to ensure easier ignition operation. Get sportbike-style full fairing with the LED headlights and side indicator, giving the motorcycle a modern and sportier look.
Other features that further enhance its sportiness are the raised tail section, sharp side panels, and sculpted fuel tank. In front of the rider, there is a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster that supports Yamaha Y-Connect, supporting turn-by-turn navigation. It has a digital speedometer, tachometer, gear-position indicator, fuel-level information, engine temperature, trip meters, odometer and others.
Its main rivals are the KTM RC 200 and the Hero Karizma XMR 210. Of the two, the former one is closest; compared to the all-new Yamaha motorcycle, its base variant is ₹15,779 costlier, has a 4.5 cc larger displacement engine that delivers 1.5 PS more power but 0.1 Nm less torque, has 11 kg less kerb weight, 25 mm less seat height, 21 mm less ground clearance, and 0.3 litre bigger fuel tank.
