On July 8, 2026, Yamaha Motor Company, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, launched the Yamaha Aerox E, an electric maxi scooter, with an ex-showroom price of ₹2.81 lakh. With the launch, bookings have already started online and through Yamaha dealerships. They haven’t confirmed any date for delivery; reportedly, the manufacturer will start delivering from August 2026.
Compared to the one already available for sale in the Indian market with an internal combustion engine, it costs twice as much. The launch of the Aerox E has added the second model in the electric scooter portfolio of the company. Notably, the first model, the Yamaha EC-06, is available for sale with an ex-showroom price of 1.67 lakh; compared to it, the new one costs ₹1.14 lakh more.
The Aerox E is available in a single standard variant with the white-with-black-and-light-blue colour option. Upfront, it has twin LED projector headlights to give better visibility for nighttime driving; sharp and angular V-shaped daylight running lights; an aerodynamic front apron to enhance aerodynamics for better efficiency; a smoked windscreen for styling; a sporty mudguard that gives a performance-oriented look; and a handlebar-mounted looking glass to get a clear view of the vehicle running behind it.
From the sides, the split-type seat is clearly visible for better seating comfort for both rider and pillion; sporty body graphics enhance the in-profile view; and foldable footpegs are for the pillion’s footrest. At the rear, it has LED taillamps just beneath the end of the pillion seat to give better visibility for other road users, side LED headlight indicators to hint at traffic behind and above your next move, and a reflector on the rear fender to make the scooter visible at night even though the rear light is turned off.
Between the handlebars, it has a 5-inch TFT colour display that supports wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, featuring turn-by-turn navigation, call & SMS alerts, and music controls. The screen also features over-the-air software updates, meaning you needn’t visit the service centre for any software upgrade; you can do so remotely. It also features cruise control, a USB charging port, regenerative braking, a Smart Key with an answer-back function, and three driving modes: Eco, Standard and Power.
Features an under-seat boot storage of 15 litres that helps in carrying small items; compared to its ICE counterpart, it has 9.5 litres of cargo space. The Aerox E is built on a lightweight underbone frame whose front and rear suspension are telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers, respectively, providing better comfort and stability for both rider and pillion. Equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes and a double-channel anti-locking braking system, which prevents wheel locking.
The length, width and height of this motorcycle are 1,980 mm, 700 mm and 1,150 mm, respectively. It has a wheelbase of 1,350 mm, which ensures better stability at high speed; 145 mm ground clearance helps it easily pass the road with potholes; a seat height of 790 mm gives the comfortable seating capacity for individuals with heights between 5 feet and 5 feet and 5 inches; and a kerb weight of 139 kg is not heavy and can be easily handled even on a busy road.
It features a mid-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor whose power output and peak torque are 9.4 kW and 48 Nm. Features a belt-drive system. Equipped with two 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery packs below the seat, which are removable, it gives an 117 km IDC range. It can reach a maximum speed of 95.5 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in under 7 seconds. It supports AC chargers up to 650 W, with maximum output; each battery pack takes 3.5 hours for a full charge.
