By 2027, Volkswagen is all set to introduce five models in the Indian market in different segments, strengthening its position against the rivals. In India, the brand has been selling cars since 2007; since then, they have sold lakhs of vehicles, many of them are still running on the Indian road. In 2026, they already launched four models; the last one among them was the Virtus Anniversary Edition.
The upcoming five models they are set to introduce in the Indian market are the Virtus facelift, Tera, Golf GTI, ID. Polo EV, and ID.4 EV. Notably, the first three are pure ICEs, and the last two are EVs. Let’s have a closer look at each of them.
VW Virtus Facelift
The MQB A0 IN-based Virtus mid-size sedan has been on sale in India since June 2022; it is first generation and has not yet received any mid-life upgrade. In October 2026, the company will introduce the model with a few changes on its front-end design and interior features upgrade, which is set to be known as the facelift and 2026-year model year.
This upcoming sedan has already been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. The camouflage at the front and rear hints the exterior is set to get a main upgrade on these parts. One major update for the powertrain is officially confirmed: the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine will now get an 8-speed AT, replacing the old 6-speed unit.
VW Tera
The sub-4-metre SUV Tera made its global debut in Brazil back in May 2025. Its launch will happen around early 2027, almost 1.5 years later. Notably, the internal model measures 4,151 mm with a 2,566 mm wheelbase, but the Indian-spec model will measure under 4 metres, and the distance between the axles may remain the same as the one already on sale in the international market.
This upcoming SUV is set to be based on the Skoda Kamiq, underpinning the MQB-A0-IN platform. Being a five-seater, it will feature a decent cargo space behind the second row. Under the hood, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol ICE is certain to generate 118 bhp power and 178 Nm torque. Outside, it is set to have integrated LED headlights, double-toned alloy wheels, and thick wheel-arch cladding.
VW Golf GTI
Back in May 2025, the Golf GTI was available for sale with the ex-showroom price of ₹50.90 lakh, which is currently sold out. The Indian subsidiary of the German carmaker is all set to come with the second batch in late 2026, probably with the same price. This is a five-door hatchback, which measures 4,289 mm longer, 1,789 mm wider, and 1,458 mm taller with the 2,619 mm wheelbase.
Inside the hood, it has a 1,984 cc 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol internal combustion engine with a 7-speed DSG, which puts out 265 PS power and 370 Nm torque. It is built on an in-house developed MQB Evo platform featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. The cabin’s dash gets a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel.
VW Polo EV
The five-door pure-electric ID.4 EV hatchback was unveiled globally on April 29, 2026, after which its production began in June 2026 in Spain. This MEB+-based EV launch confirmation is still awaited, but automotive reports suggest it for mid-2027. In India, it may be imported as CKD and assembled locally to compete with Citroën ë-C3, MG Comet EV, and Tata Tiago EV with competitive pricing.
The Indian-spec model is set to remain the same as the international one, which gets an APP290 electric motor on the front axle featuring a FWD drivetrain. Two battery packs are offered, 37 kWh LFP and 52 kWh NMC, giving a 329 km and 454 km range in WLTP conditions, respectively. Inside, it is set to have a 13-inch touchscreen with 10 speakers and a subwoofer and two-zone automatic AC.
VW ID.4 EV
The premium electric SUV ID.4 EV is anticipated to come to India as a CBU almost 6 years after the global debut back in September 2020. This sport utility vehicle is already on sale in the international market and has received good response from the buyer. Its India launch will happen to target Indian drivers looking for an electric car that has a large battery pack and offers premium features.
The confirmed date for the launch is still pending. Its debut in India will happen with all that are offered for the global model. A 77 kWh lithium-ion battery pack giving a 531 km WLTP range and a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle delivering 204 PS power and 310 Nm torque are certain. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and the top speed is 160 km/h.
