Next-Gen BMW 3 Series Confirmed With Four- and Six-Cylinder Petrol Engines, Neue Klasse Design

BMW, the German luxury automobile manufacturer, has officially confirmed that the upcoming next-generation BMW 3 Series will go on sale across the globe with the both four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol-powered internal combustion engine with the 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, which includes an electric motor and 40-volt battery. 

The six-cylinder turbo-petrol ICE is a 3.0-litre engine that will be mated with the eight-speed automatic transmission, which delivers 443 bhp power and 580 Nm torque, and the drivetrain for the same is xDrive all-wheel-drive. Reports suggest that with this ICE option, the car will take 4.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph and reach 250 kmph top speed.

For the four-cylinder turbo-petrol ICE, no details are made public. A few reports say that it will be a 2.0-litre engine, whose transmission and drivetrain may be similar to 3.0-litre engine. BMW will reveal all the pending details regarding this engine option with the unveiling of this ICE-powered car, which may take place in near future.

What else do we know about the next-gen BMW 3 Series?

Depending on internal combustion engine configuration, the all-new BMW 3 Series variant will vary. Reports confirm that the model will get a six-cylinder engine known as M350 xDrive variant, variant name for four-cylinder unit still undisclosed since its core details are still pending. 

The next-generation BMW 3 Series is all set to come with the Neue Klasse-inspired style with the new design language and signature four-eyed front end. This car is coming with Improved handling and transverse dynamics, and Ride comfort for long-distance driving.

Reports confirm that the cabin will have BMW Panoramic iDrive that connect both A-pillars, and an updated touchscreen on the dashboard that will run on BMW Operating System X. The lift-related dampers will be standard for the model. 

Compared to the current-generation model, the upcoming one will be a little longer with more wheelbase and bigger cargo space behind the second row. The seating layout will remain 2-3 but the legroom, headroom, and shoulder room will be improved significantly.

The new-generation BMW 3 unveil or launch date is still pending. Reports suggest that the German automobile manufacturer will start the production in the second half of 2026. The unveiling and launch is anticipated simultaneously for the European market in late 2026; some reports also suggest its launch in the early 2027.

As of now, there’s no update on its launch in the Indian market. A few months after its global release the model may also go on sale in India. Pricing details are still pending, the outgoing model cost 62.70 lakhs to 77.10 lakh rupees, the upcoming one is likely to be little costlier.

What are the current-gen BMW 3 Series specs and features?

The outgoing BMW 3 Series model is available in the Indian market in two variants: M340i xDrive and 330i. The former one get a 3.0L turbo petrol, inline-six internal combustion engine that delivers 386 hp and 539 Nm torque, making to 0 to 100 kmph acceleration possible in 4.1 second; and latter have 2.0L turbo petrol 4-cylinder engine that put out 255 hp and 400 Nm, and its 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing is 5.8 second.

Inside the cabin, the current-generation BMW 3 Series gets a BMW Widescreen Curved Display, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display, and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. The entire cockpit runs on BMW Operating System 8.0. It also features voice control, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, electric front-seat adjustment, active carbon filters for air quality, and driver-seat memory function.
