The Japanese automaker Honda will soon introduce the Prelude, a two-door coupe with a full hybrid powertrain with no need for external charging, in the very near future. Reportedly, the launch may happen in May 2026 with the ex-showroom price between ₹70 lakh and ₹80 lakh, as its introduction will take place as a combined built unit (CBU) from Japan.

The Prelude that Honda is all set to launch in India is the sixth generation of the vehicle, whose concept was shown back in 2023, and the production model was revealed last year. Currently, it is available for sale at various markets, and the next country on its list of debuts is India. It shares the underpinnings with its sibling, the eleventh-generation Honda Civic.

Space & Dimensions

Honda Prelude Rearview

The Prelude comes with a seating capacity of four people in a layout of two and two; the front seats are spacious, ideal for couples. The seating at the rear is compact; adults may feel a little unconventional, but it is good for kids; they feel comfortable.

Being a compact, it has a boot space of 264 liters and can carry luggage for small trips, and interestingly, the rear seats are foldable, which can increase the cargo up to 760 liters, enabling the carrying of 5 pieces of big luggage. For newlywed couples, the car may be an ideal option.

The dimensions in terms of length, width, and height are 4,520 mm, 1,880 mm, and 1,355 mm, respectively, but are good in size compared to its rivals in the segment. Its sporty design draws an interesting parallel with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, while the 2,605 mm wheelbase ensures high-speed stability.

The ground clearance of 135 is a little lower and can easily cross the small puddles. It is important to note that their measurements are for the car that is available for sale internationally; for the Indian market, it may come with increased ground clearance.

Powertrain & Performance

The Prelude has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a direct fuel injection system under the hood, with the two PMSMs that are mounted with the engine crankshaft inline. The setup features an FWD drivetrain, but its transmission isn’t a single-speed automatic or e-CVT; it comes with a virtual eight-speed transmission that is referred to as S+ Shift.

The engine of the vehicle acts as a generator to power the motor that runs the wheels. The power output of the engine is 139 hp, and peak torque is 182 Nm, and the motor generates the power of 181 hp and torque of 315 Nm. The combined power output is 200 hp, and the peak torque is 315 Nm. The equipped car doesn’t need to be plugged in; it automatically charges itself with regenerative braking.

It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 180 km/h; these figures are ideal and better in the segment. On the WLTC cycle, its fuel efficiency is 23.6 km/l, and with the 40-liter fuel tank, it gives a range of 944 km. In India, its ARAI-certified fuel efficiency may be around 25-26 kmpl with a range of 1,000 km, depending on the driving dynamics.

Interior & Technology

The cabin is equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard, and there’s a digital instrument cluster of 10.2 inches under the steering wheel for the driver that shows all driving data, including navigation, speed, and alerts.

The screen supports wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and also offers connected features and AI-based voice control. Also get the Google-built-in system, including Maps, Assistant, and Play Store. For a theater-like audio experience, it comes with an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Other notable features for the wireless phone charger include USB-C fast charging ports, automatic climate control, multiple drive modes including Comfort, Sport, GT, and Individual, multiple airbags that play a crucial role in saving life, and Level 2 ADAS, which makes the driving semi-autonomous.
