The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, People’s Republic of China, has exposed the core specifications of the upcoming Dongfeng Nissan NX7, which is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with a seating capacity of five individuals in a two-three layout. Under the hood, it has a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol-powered ICE, whose power output is 73 kW (98 hp).
The internal combustion engine is paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor whose rated power is 34 kW (46 hp) and peak is 170 kW (228 hp). Its drivetrain is front-wheel drive, and its transmission is single-speed automatic. Equipped with a 40.95 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, sourced from the CATL-FAW joint venture, which gives the emission-free CLTC range of 220 km and 225 km. The top speed is 180 kmph.
When the battery pack is drained, it gives a fuel efficiency of 4.82 liters per 100 km. Depending on the trim, its curb weight ranges from 1,915 kg to 2,000 kg. The length, width, and height are 4,785 mm, with the wheelbase of 2,815 mm, 1,932 mm or 1,920 mm, and 1,660 mm and 1,665 mm, respectively. Two wheel size options are available, which are 18-inch with 235/55 tires and 19-inch with 245/60. The approach and departure angles are 18° and 24°, respectively.
Upfront, it has a split LED headlight setup; the slim daylight running light is placed above at the corner, and below that, the main headlamps are present. Features a closed-off grille with a Nissan logo to ensure better aerodynamics and reflect branding. The air intakes are available below the number plate holder to keep the engine and battery pack cool.
The sides have A-pillar-mounted outside the rear-view mirror to see the blind spots, which also integrates blinkers that help with hinting to the traffic ahead about the next move. It has black-out pillars, which give a floating roof effect. The handles for the door are semi-hidden to reduce drag and improve premiumness in the side view.
Its rear boasts a roof-integrated spoiler, like other crossovers, to reduce turbulence and improve stability at high speed. Get a full-width LED taillight on the tailgate, which connects with the through-type LED taillamps at the edges to give it a modern touch and improve its visibility at night. The taillight gets Nissan lettering in the center for branding. Features a horizontal-shaped reflector on the bumper.
The interior is still pending. Reports even suggest that they will introduce the Dongfeng Nissan NX7 as all-wheel drive. The AWD may get the ICE and PMSM under the hood, the same as FWD, with an additional P4 electric motor on the rear axle. Not officially confirmed; most likely to continue with the same battery pack, but the EV mode range will all be slightly lower than the FWD variant’s.
Inside, it may get a two-spoke steering wheel similar to the Dongfeng Nissan NX8. We are expecting that it will borrow many features from its sibling. Most anticipated is to get a slim digital instrument cluster at the dashboard before the driving data. On the dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment at the center and an entertainment screen before the co-passenger are certain to enhance cabin aesthetics.
There’s no update on its launch in the Chinese market. Some reports suggest that the carmaker will introduce the model in the last quarter of 2026. In the next few weeks, we may see the beginning of its pre-sale, which will be followed by a market launch. Following the launch, it will compete with the BYD Song Plus DM-i and the Geely Galaxy L7.
Nothing about its pricing is confirmed from the joint venture between Nissan Motor and Dongfeng Motor Corporation. The Dongfeng Nissan NX7 is set to be positioned below the Dongfeng Nissan NX8, which cost 159,900 to 209,900 yuan (23,692 to 31,101 USD). So, we are expecting it to cost 129,900 to 169,900 yuan (19,247 to 25,174 USD).
