On August 10, 2026, BMW India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW, started the booking for the BMW X1 LWB, a stretched version of the regular BMW X1, for the driver who is looking for a more premium option with enhanced practicality.
They have started taking orders through BMW India’s official website, exactly 11 days before the market launch. The booking can be done also via the BMW dealership. Notably, its market launch is slated for August 21, 2026. On the launch day, the carmaker will reveal its ex-showroom price, specifications and features.
Its launch in the Indian market is all set to happen as a locally manufactured model from the BMW Group Plant Chennai; they aren’t importing it from abroad. In terms of length, width, and height, it measures 4,616 mm, 1,845 mm, and 1,641 mm, respectively. Compared to the standard one, it is 116 mm longer and 11 mm taller.
The wheelbase of the BMW X1 is 2,802 mm, 110 mm longer, which makes its cabin more spacious and provides better legroom and headroom to enhance practicality and comfort for rear-seating passengers. Its rear seat bench position is 27 mm higher, and headrest cushioning is 37 mm wider.
As a five-seater, it has a boot space of 540 litres, 64 litres more. The boot space is accessible via tailgate help with easier loading and unloading and can easily accommodate five big suitcases. The rear seats are expected to support split folding in a 40:20:30 ratio, which enhances practicality for carrying luggage.
There’s no change in its exterior styling. The large kidney grille at the front end, sleek LED headlamps, LED tail-lamps, and sculpted bodywork remain the same. In China, they have introduced it with two wheel size options: 19-inch and 20-inch, but for India, it may remain 18 inches.
Regarding the powertrain and performance, nothing is confirmed. Reports suggest that it may be available with two different internal combustion engine options, which are a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine; with the former one, it may deliver 154 bhp power and 230 Nm torque.
On the other hand, the latter one generates the power of 204 hp and torque of 300 Nm. Both ICEs are anticipated to be mated with the 7-speed double-clutch transmission. The 1.5-litre may be offered with front-wheel drive and the 2.0-litre with also all-wheel drive.
In China, it is also offered with nine ICE options, which are 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered with 7-speed DCT, whose displacement is 1998 cc, maximum power output is 204 hp, and peak torque is 300 Nm. Offered as FWD and AWD with 0 to 100 km/h acceleration timings of 7.9 seconds and 7.7 seconds, respectively.
Inside, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen is at the centre of the dashboard with the connected-car technology and OTA software updates. A 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is set to be integrated with the centrally mounted screen for an immersive audio experience.
A 10.25-inch digital instrument display under the steering wheel is certain to show driving-related information. Set to get powered front seats, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charging pad, an automatic parking assistant, and a powered tailgate to ensure premium comfort and convenience.
Prices are certain to be more than the ex-showroom cost of the BMW X1. As the standard one is available for sale with the price of ₹50.90 lakh for sDrive18i M Sport and ₹52.20 lakh for sDrive18d M Sport, we are expecting that the upcoming X1 LWB will be available for sale with the price around ₹60.00 lakh or even more.
