BMW Indian finally launched the facelift of the 7 Series and i7, and booking has officially started with the launch. Two variants are introduced for both models, the 740d M Sport and 740i M Sport for the 7 Series with the ex-showroom price of ₹1.83 crore, and the eDrive50 and M70 xDrive for the i7 with the cost of ₹2.10 crore and ₹2.58 crore, respectively.
The dimensions are 5,391 mm, 1,950 mm, and 1,544 mm in terms of length, width, and height, respectively. Their wheelbase and ground clearance are 3,215 mm and 135 mm, respectively. It comes with 5 seats in a 2-3 layout, and there’s a cargo capacity of 540 litres behind the second row.
These models have an illuminated squared-off kidney grille, split headlights set up and the Swarovski crystal-effect headlamps placed below the slim daylight running light. Other upfront design highlights are the Welcome and Goodbye light animation and the sculpted front bumper enhancement.
On the sides, it gets a flush-type, frameless-style side-window design, large alloy wheels, a heated and powered outside rear view mirror, and a Hofmeister kink; its rear has slim L-shaped LED tail lights, a chrome rear strip, a power-operated tailgate, and a bumper-integrated horizontal reflector.
The cabin has a BMW Panoramic iDrive display across the lower windscreen that connects both A-pillars. It acts as a digital instrument cluster showing all the driving data, as there’s no driver display. It has a leatherette-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel with the BMW.
The 17.9-inch curved touchscreen as the infotainment system is placed on the dashboard centre that runs on the new-generation BMW Operating System 9. There’s also a 14.9-inch display before the co-passenger seat at the dashboard for entertainment purposes.
Other feature highlights from the cabin are the Crystal-effect iDrive controller and gear selector, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos, four-zone automatic climate control, and a wireless smartphone charging pad on the centre console.
The infotainment system supports wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and also supports connected car technology with over-the-air software updates and an AI-based voice assistant. It also has a 3D Head-Up Display and a 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen.
Its front seats are heated and ventilated and also feature a massaging function. All seats are electrically adjustable with enhanced seating comfort. The armrests are heated. Cabins also have ambient lighting, and the rear entertainment screen also supports streaming, gaming and video calls.
The 7 Series 740i M Sport has a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid, which delivers 381 hp and 540 Nm. The transmission is an 8-speed Steptronic automatic, and the drivetrain is xDrive AWD. The 0 to 100 km/h sprinting time is 4.9 seconds, and the top speed is 250 km/h.
And the 740d M Sport features a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 diesel engine with 48V mild-hybrid, which generates 286 hp and 650 Nm. Its drivetrain, transmission and top speed are the same as the 740i M Sport. The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 kmph is 5.8 seconds.
The i7 eDrive50 and M70 xDrive get two electric motors, one on each axle, featuring xDrive AWD. The power output is 455 hp and 659 hp for eDrive50 and M70 xDrive, respectively; the acceleration timing for 0 to 100 kmph is 5.5 seconds for the former and 3.8 seconds for the latter. Their top speed is also 250 kmph.
Both variants are equipped with the 112.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack; the former one runs up to 727 km and the latter up to 600 km on the WLTP condition. They both support DC chargers up to 205 kW and 195 kW for eDrive50 and M70 xDrive variants, respectively, which take 34 minutes for 10 to 80 per cent charging.
