After multiple sightings of the Mahindra Thar facelift in India, Mahindra Auto has officially confirmed the date on which they are going to launch this off-road sport utility vehicle in the Indian market.
The model that is already on sale is the first facelift of the 2nd-gen model, which went on sale in October 2025. The upcoming one is the second facelift, which may be introduced as a 2027-year model.
What was officially revealed regarding its launch?
The launch date for the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is officially confirmed, releasing the teaser image with the caption ‘An icon, now more iconic.’ The carmaker is all set to launch this model on September 22, 2026.
Reports confirm that Mahindra Auto will launch a three-door off-roader holding an event at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, which is scheduled between September 22 and 24, 2026. However, there’s no official confirmation regarding the venue.
During the launch event, the carmaker won’t only reveal the price but also describe each change that they have made for this car. There’s no official word regarding the timing of the event; we are anticipating it to be held around the evening.

Expected upgrades and changes.
The second facelift of the next-generation Mahindra Thar is coming with noticeable upgrades and improvements inside the cabin and on the exterior, giving the new exterior design and improving occupants’ comfort and convenience.
The spied image has already confirmed that the upcoming Mahindra Thar facelift will have a Mahindra Thar Roxx-inspired grill giving a distinct look compared to the outgoing model, an updated headlights setup for road illumination during the night, and new alloy wheels enhancing the road presence.
Revisions for the rear taillamps and front and rear bumper are also expected. Nothing regarding the interior upgrades is officially confirmed for the second facelift, but major features upgrades including updated upholstery and window trim is certain.
Many reports suggest a bunch of new features will be introduced for the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift, such as a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, a wireless phone charging pad at the center console, ventilated front seats for enhanced seating comfort, and a 360-degree camera for the surround view.
Any other changes?
Apart from the upgrades on the exterior design and interior features, nothing other will change. The dimensions, powertrain, underpinning, seating layout, and rest will remain the same.
The one already on sale in the Indian market measures 3,985 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height, with a wheelbase and ground clearance of 2,450 mm and 226 mm, respectively.
The four seats with a 2-2 layout will continue with a boot space of 332 liters behind the second row that helps in carrying small pieces of luggage.
Under the hood, buyers will be able to choose either a 2.2L turbo-diesel, a 2.0L turbo-petrol, or a 1.5L turbo-diesel internal combustion engine. The first one’s drivetrain will be 2WD, the second’s will be available with both 2WD and 4WD, and the third’s with only 4WD.
The transmission option for the first one is 6-speed manual, but for the last two, the 6-speed automatic option will also be on cards. The power output for the first, second, and third engine options is set to be 119 PS, 152 PS, and 132 PS, respectively.
Price expectations.
Mahindra Auto will reveal the ex-showroom price for the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift at the launch event on the scheduled date; the existing variants, which include the AXT and LXT lineups, are most likely to continue. A little increase in ex-showroom price is certain for the upcoming model.
The outing model is available for sale with the starting ex-showroom price of ₹10.32 lakh and goes up to ₹18 lakh. As an increase around ₹1 lakh is most likely, we are expecting that the facelift will cost starting from ₹11 lakh for the entry-level variant and go to ₹19 lakh for the top trim.
