On August 21, 2026, BMW India started bookings for the BMW i5 LWB in India; drivers who want to make a purchase may register their interest through the brand’s official website or authorised dealership. They have confirmed that for the Indian market, a total of 99 units will be imported as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and assembled in India at BMW’s Chennai plant.
Since the booking is already taking place, soon the German luxury automobile manufacturer will launch and announce the price, and all the specifications are still pending. Regarding the price, there’s no update. Reports suggest it costs ex-showroom lower than ₹1 crore to take on the Porsche Taycan, BYD Seal, Audi A6 e-tron, and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
The booking for the model started almost nine months after the report that BMW will introduce the BMW i5 LWB via the CKD route. Its global debut happened on 8 August 2023, and now the launch in India is all set to happen in the next few weeks, almost three years later. The standard i5 is already on sale in India from April 2024 via the CBU route with a price of ₹1.20 crore ex-showroom.

The length, width, and height for the BMW i5 LWB are 5,175 mm, 1,900 mm, and 1,520 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. Compared to standard i5, it is 115 mm longer with 110 mm more wheelbase, and 5 mm height. The width remains the same. Reportedly, the variant to go on sale in India is eDrive 35L which gets an electric motor on rear axle.

This setup makes it a car with a rear-wheel-drive drivetrain. The e-motor is mated with a single-speed automatic transmission, which delivers the power of 268 hp. Equipped with the 81.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which gives a range of 669 kilometres on MIDC conditions, the real-world driving range is set to vary depending on driving style, weather conditions and battery age.
For city driving in India, the range is anticipated to be around 570 kilometres, and on highways it may run up to 600 kilometres after each full charge. The carmaker says that to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h it takes 6.7 seconds, an ideal figure for both city driving and highway cruising; for clarity, its sprinting is 2.9 seconds slower than the one already on sale via the CBU route, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive.

The ground clearance for the BMW i5 LWB is still undisclosed; its international variant has a ride of 144 mm. It reportedly confirms that they have increased the ground clearance to make it Indian road-friendly so it can even run on the road with potholes and speed breakers without any problem. We are anticipating it to be around 180 mm; they will unveil the actual with the launch.
The seating layout remains the same as the standard i5 with 2 seats in the front row and 3 in the second. Comparatively, its cabin is more spacious, giving better legroom for all three rear-seat passengers. Behind the second row, it has a cargo capacity of 490 litres, the same as the standard model, but this space is enough to carry 5 pieces of luggage, including 3 big and 2 small.
Interior features are officially confirmed; the dashboard centre will have a 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system and features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel. The cabin gets Bowers & Wilkins’ premium audio system, ensuring immersive audio and enhancing the infotainment experience.
Other notable features are Multi-zone automatic climate control that helps set different temperatures for the driver, co-passenger, and other occupants; Electrically adjustable front seats; 360-degree camera; Silver-bronze accents, open-pore wood interior trim, and a panoramic glass roof with integrated lighting.
