In the previous report, we shared that the Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield will launch the Himalayan 440 in September 2026, but the actual date was uncertain. Now it has been officially confirmed that they will launch it for the domestic market on the 4th of the month as a rival to the Yezdi Adventure, the BMW G 310 GS, the KTM 250 Adventure, and the Hero Xpulse 421.
They will launch the model by organizing an event in Leh, Ladakh, although official confirmation regarding the same is still pending. Shortly after the market launch, bookings will start on Royal Enfield’s official website and dealerships across the country. Following the launch, the delivery will start within a month, the most expected date is mid October 2026.
As of now, the manufacturer has one model in the Himalayan series, the 450, which is available for sale in the Indian market from November 2023 with the ex-showroom price between ₹3.08 lakh and ₹3.40 lakh. The upcoming bike from Royal Enfield is set to be positioned below this model and anticipated to cost significantly cheaper; we are expecting it to be priced at ₹2.5 lakh.
In the Himalayan family, earlier a model named Himalayan 411 was on sale in India before November 30, 2023; the two-wheeler maker discontinued the model by replacing it with the 450. Reportedly, the upcoming 440 is highly based on the same. In terms of design, wheel setup, off-road focus, accessibility, and ergonomics, the upcoming one will resemble the discounted 411.
The upcoming Himalayan 440 is built on the same underpinning as the Scram 440, which gets a 41 mm telescopic fork with 190 mm travel as front suspension and a linkage-type monoshock with 180 mm travel as rear. The same suspension setup is anticipated for the upcoming but with a 10 mm more long travels. May get 21-inch front and 19-inch rear multi-spoke alloy wheels.
The ventilated disc for both wheels is more likely with the double-channel anti-locking braking system. They will unveil the dimensions of this motorcycle with the launch, but many reports suggest it will be identical to the 411, whose length, width, and height are 2,190 mm, 840 mm, and 1,370 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 1,465 mm, seat height of 800 mm, and ground clearance of 220 mm.
Set to feature a 443cc LS440 single-cylinder air/oil-cooled petrol-powered internal combustion engine that supports electric fuel injection and starting, whose bore and stroke are 81 mm and 86 mm, respectively. The ICE is set to be bolted with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper. Reportedly, the ICE will deliver the maximum power of 25.4 hp at 6,250 rpm and the peak torque of 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
It is certain that the upcoming 440 will borrow many features from the premium sibling, such as LED headlights, taillamps, and blinkers at the front end. The ABS on the rear wheel is anticipated to be switchable for better grip during off-roading. Other features that it is highly expected are a USB charging port, a digital-analog instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, and ride-by-wire.
To ensure fewer refueling stops, it is set to feature a large fuel tank with decent mileage for city driving, highway cruising, and mixed conditions. Its 0 to 60 km/h acceleration timing and top speed are also pending, but may take 4 second and go upto 120 kmph, respectively. It is certain that it will have a split seat with soft cushioning to provide a comfortable seating position for the rider and pillion.
