On August 12, 2026, Yamaha Motor, the Japanese motorcycle maker, started the booking for a new R-Series motorcycle with the amount of ₹10,000, whose launch is scheduled to happen on August 27, 2026. The name of this bike is still undisclosed; we are expecting it to be known as the Yamaha R2 because the poster they have shared on their official website shows ‘2’ is hidden in the letter ‘R.’
The speculation about the Yamaha R2 is further strengthened by the trademark filing for the YZF-R2. Reportedly, this upcoming motorcycle from the Japanese bike manufacturer will fill the gaps between R15 and R3. Notably, their poster made public online clearly shows ‘We R On Our Way’ lettering, the hashtag #RInstinct, and the date 27:08:26, confirming that an R-Series motorcycle is launching in the Indian market on the shown date.
A rider who will book this upcoming motorcycle will get delivery priority following the market. The amount of ₹10,000, which is payable for booking, is fully refundable, meaning if the individual changes their mind about making a purchase after depositing the required amount, they will get a full refund without any deduction. Following the launch of R2, Yamaha will have a total of six models in the Indian market, including five others: R1, R3, R7, R9, and R15.
Set to come with R-series design
So far, Yamaha Motor hasn’t said a word about its design, and neither have they teased this upcoming motorcycle. Notably, it hasn’t been spotted testing even a single time; we are expecting it in the near future as the launch date is drawing near. All we know is that its design is set to be quite similar to other R-Series motorcycles from the Japanese brand.
The upcoming motorcycle from Yamaha is set to feature aerodynamic fairings to improve performance, an aggressive front end for a sharp and race-inspired face to give it a modern touch, slim and compact proportions for improved handling, a sport riding position to give the rider the feel of a supersport bike, and a raised rear section for a sporty silhouette and dynamic back look.
Features expectations
The bike maker will reveal features at the launch event. Reports suggest that it will come with the Traction Control System, which prevents excessive spinning on acceleration and helps on the wet roads with better grip; a bidirectional quick shifter to help with the gear change without using the clutch lever; and a side-stand engine cut-off, a safety feature that doesn’t let the bike start until the stand is folded.
The LED lights are anticipated for headlights, blinkers, and taillamps. Set to feature a full-color TFT instrument display in front of the rider on the dashboard assembly showing all driving data, which will support wireless connectivity via Yamaha Motor Connect and Bluetooth for call and message notifications and ride statistics.

Set to be based on the Deltabox frame, with upside-down forks as the front and a linked-type monoshock as the rear suspension. Alloy wheels of 17 inches are anticipated for both ends with 100/80 tires at the front and 140/70 at the rear. Solid disc brakes are certain for both wheels with the double-channel anti-locking braking system, which prevents wheel locking in case of sudden braking.
A 200 cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder internal combustion engine is set to be mated with a six-speed manual transmission in 1 down and 5 ups; the neutral is between the first and second gear, whose maximum power output and peak torque are expected to be 25 PS and 20 Nm. Many reports suggest it will come with both assist and slipper clutch and variable valve actuation.

There’s no update from the manufacturer regarding its ex-showroom price. As the R2 is going to be positioned above the R15 and below the R3 in the Yamaha’s R-Series, we are expecting it to cost between 2 lakh and 2.25 lakh. Following the launch, it will compete with the Bajaj Pulsar RS200, the Hero Karizma XMR 210, and the KTM RC 200.
