The Chery-JLR, a joint venture between the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery Automobile and British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover, is all set to launch the Freelander 8, a premium electrified sport utility vehicle, which is set to make its debut in the domestic market in the second half of 2026. Recently, they have revealed its interior.
Reportedly, it has a dual-master cabin layout consisting of a commander’s driver’s seat and L•A•D•Y front passenger seat with 1,200 mm of legroom, which enables stretching for individuals with heights up to 1.9 meters to stretch comfortably, as it can be done with a first-class airline seat.
Features a 46.3-inch 8K panoramic remote display on the bottom of the windshield, which shows all the driving-related information, whose width of 1.2 meters, 8K resolution, and 1,000 nits peak brightness; the center of the dashboard is equipped with a 15.6-inch LED touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless connectivity, over-the-air software updates, and an AI-based voice assistant.
The infotainment system features six cabin modes: Rest, Cinema, Camping, Animal, Children, and Immersive Acoustic; and it can control the center lock, sunroof shade, tailgate, and charging port cover, Music, fragrance system, fog lights, seat massage, Zero-gravity seating mode, and one-touch third-row seat folding.
Inside the cabin, it has a four-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons for control, two wireless phone charging pads on the center console for phone charging convenience for the driver and co-passenger, and Clous de Paris (Paris Stud) pattern-inspired physical buttons just below the centrally mounted screen for settings and functions inside the cabin.
The center of the dashboard also has optical-grade dual floating crystal rotary knobs, made up of K9 optical crystal with 144 precision-cut facets, which integrate 256-color ambient lighting to enhance the mood of occupants for nighttime driving.
Other notable features are gentle airflow climate control, which maintains the cabin temperature and enhances comfort for all; a British manor-inspired fragrance system to keep the cabin fresh; and dedicated private storage compartments to enhance practicality for each person’s seating.
Reports confirm that it comes with Huawei Qiankun ADS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) 5.0, Huawei’s latest ADAS, which works with roof-mounted LiDAR, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and the latest-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade chipset, featuring NOA for city driving and highway cruising, ACC, AEB, and others.
Available with a seating capacity of 6 people in a 2-2-2 layout, whose maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. The length, width, and height are 5,118 mm, 2,050 mm, and 1,898 mm. Its wheelbase is 3,040 mm, kerb weight is 2,980 kg, and gross weight is 3,495 kg, just 5 kg less than 3.5 tonnes. The carmaker is set to launch the model with five exterior color options that are Cloud Top White, Polar Night Black, Overflowing Copper, Fjord Blue, and Flowing Silver.
Outside, it has a boxy design with an upright stance, FREELANDER lettering just below the hood, slim LED headlights including a main headlamp and daylight running light, bumper-integrated air intakes, a roof-mounted LIDAR unit, and a skid plate on the sculpted bumper at the front end.
On the sides, it has wheel arch cladding, side skirts, semi-flush-type door handles, door-mounted outside rear-view mirrors with integrated blinkers, a roof spoiler, and nine-spoke alloy wheels; a rear boat roof-integrated spoiler above the windshield; FREELANDER lettering on the tailgate; horizontal-shape LED taillights; and a bumper-integrated side reflector.
The Freelander 8 is an extended-range electric vehicle whose electrical architecture is 800-volt high voltage. Under the hood, it gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion engine, whose power output is 115 kW (154 hp). Features a 60.33 kWh CATL ternary lithium (NMC) battery pack, whose emission-free WLTC range is 221 kilometers.
