BYD Sealion 6 PHEV India Launch in H2 2026 - AWD, 324 PS & ₹38-42 Lakh

BYD is gearing up to launch the BYD Sealion 6, a part of the Ocean series, in the Indian market. It is set to be the first plug-in hybrid vehicle from the company in India, which is already being sold globally with the names Song Plus DM-i and Seal U DM-i. Its launch in India will happen in the second half of 2026. Pricing is not yet revealed, but it may be available for sale with the ex-showroom price between 38 lakh and 42 lakh rupees.

It was recently spotted testing on public roads in Tamil Nadu; interestingly, it was undisguised. This is not the first time the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV has been spotted testing like this. Notably, they are all set to introduce it in India without any changes. Its India launch will happen with the same design, specifications and features with which this plug-in hybrid vehicle is offered in China and other international markets.

As of now, in India, there are a total of four models of BYD; they are the Atto 3, eMAX 7, Seal and Sealion 7. Among the available models, the launch of Sealion 6 will position it above Atto 3 and below Sealion 7. Dimensionally, it is 4,775 mm length, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,670 mm taller. Its wheelbase is 2,765 mm, quite similar to its competitors’, which are the Hyundai Tucson, the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Jeep Compass.

Up front, it features U-shaped sharp LED headlamps with slim integrated DRLs (daylight running lights) giving it a modern look; in profile, it comes with traditional door handles for better practicality and 19-inch alloy wheels with a modern design enhancing road presence; at the back, it gets full-width connected LED taillamps creating a wide stance, a roof-mounted spoiler improving aerodynamics, and a wide tailgate for easy boot access.

In its global market, it is available with four colour options that are Arctic White, Time Grey, Cosmos Black and blue-inspired; the India launch may have the same options. The car features a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2-3. The front seats come with both heating and ventilation functions, and the driver’s seat is electrically adjustable in eight ways, but the rear seat only features reclining; no ventilation or heating functions are available.

Two wireless phone charging pads are available in the front row for phone charging; the second row gets USB-A and USB-C charging ports. Above the rear seats, there’s a panoramic glass roof, which makes the cabin spacious and airy. The rear seats get separate AC vents for the cooling of rear-seating passengers during the hot weather. Behind the rear seat, it features a boot space of 425 litres that can be expanded up to 1,440 litres.

It also gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display that projects primary driving details on the windscreen, which helps drivers stay focused.

Globally, it is available with both FWD and AWD drivetrains, which get a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a single motor on the front axle generating a maximum power of 217 PS and peak torque of 300 Nm, and a 1.5L turbo petrol engine and dual-motor one on each axle whose combined power output is 324 PS and peak torque is 550 Nm, respectively. The variant that is expected to be introduced in India is AWD; however, the official confirmation is still awaited.
