Voyah Taishan X8 Gets 20,000 Bookings in 20 Hours: Flagship SUV With Hybrid & EV Power

The Voyah, a sub-brand under the Dongfeng Motor Corporation, started the pre-sale for the Taishan X8, a full-size luxury SUV. 

Within 20 hours of the start of pre-sale, it received more than 20,000 orders, out of which around 15,000 bookings were done within 53 minutes. It is important to note that these orders can be refunded, so the actual sales figure is yet to be revealed.

It is made available in two powertrains, plug-in hybrid and pure electric; the hybrids are available with the price of 302,900 to 369,900 yuan and the electrics with 349,900 to 389,900 Chinese yuan. Domestically, its main rivals are AITO M9 and Zeekr 9X.

Powertrain Options

The plug-in hybrid vehicle comes with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and double-motor setup, one on the front axle and the other on the rear. It features an all-wheel drive configuration and an electronic continuously variable transmission. The offered battery packs are 44.5 kWh LPF and 65 kWh NMC, whose only-electric CLTC ranges are 245 km and 370 km, respectively.

The engine has a power output of 110 kW (148 hp); the front motor generates the power of 150 kW (201 hp), and the same for the rear motor is 215 kW (288 hp) with the standard battery pack and 230 kW (308 hp) with the larger one. The cabined power output for the 44.5 kWh LPF battery pack and 65 kWh NMC is 380 kW (510 hp) and 365 kW (489 hp), respectively. 

The fuel efficiency in case of a low battery is 6.5 litres per 100 km drive, which is drained; acceleration timing is 5.3 seconds; and the combined range (petrol and battery) is 200 km/h for larger battery packs. The top speed for both battery packs is 200 km/h and supports fast charging in 12-15 minutes for 10-80% charging.

The electric vehicle features two electric motors; one is mounted with the front axle and another with the rear. The setup makes it an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The transmission for it is single-speed automatic. The combined power output is 365 kW (489 hp). 

The offered battery packs are 80 kWh and 120 kWh, whose CLTC ranges are 603 km and 727 km, respectively. It is based on 800-volt electrical architecture, which supports DC chargers up to 350 kW and charges the vehicle from 0 to 80% in just 12 minutes. 

Dimensions & Design

The dimensions in length are 5,200 mm, width is 2,025 mm, height is 1,814 mm, and wheelbase is 3,090 mm. Up front, it gets a closed grille in waterfall style to give it a modern EV identity, a full-width LED light bar to add a futuristic look, an illuminated logo for branding, and slim, high-tech headlights to enhance visibility on the road during the dark nights.

In profile, it features a long and straight body to give it the stance of a flagship SUV; door handles for entering the gate are flush-type and a little illuminated for better aerodynamics and added premiumness; and 21–22 inch wheels are made of alloy to enhance the road trip. The rear has a full-width LED light bar taillight for styling and a clean tailgate with VOYAH lettering on it to reflect the identity. 

Cabin & Technology

Voyah Taishan X8 Interior

The interior features the Huawei HarmonyOS Cockpit, which is featured in Huawei’s next-gen system. The cabin is equipped with dual 15.6-inch 2K displays, one acting as a drive display and central infotainment system and another as a passenger screen. For rear-seating passengers’ entertainment, it gets a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted screen.

The rear gets zero-gravity seats, which recline 140°, and their sliding range is 200 mm. The seating also features a mechanical kneading massage system with ventilation and heating. The multiple-colour ambient lighting is added to enhance the mood. Other notable features are a double-door 13-litre refrigerator for cooling and heating and a one-click bed mode, which folds the rear seats to turn it into a 2.1-metre flatbed.
