GWM’s Tank Launches ‘700’ Off-road PHEV SUV in China With Hi4-T & Hi4-Z Powertrains

The Tank, a sub-brand of Great Wall Motor, launched the 700, a plug-in hybrid off-road vehicle. It is available with PHEV power trains, which are Hi4-T and Hi4-Z. The first one is available in a single trim, which is Pinnacle, and its price is 508,000 yuan; and the latter is available in two trims, which are Ultimate and Extreme, whose prices are 428,000 yuan and 468,000 yuan, respectively.

The 700 is a full-size luxury off-roader, which is available with a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3. Its dimensions in terms of length, width and height are 5105 mm, 2061 mm and 1985 mm, respectively, which make its cabin quite spacious with ample leg room, shoulder room and head room. The wheelbase is 3000 mm, which enhances the stability and also improves its road presence.

The vehicle with the Hi4-T powertrain comes with strong off-road capability and gives reliable traction in tough terrain, while the car with the Hi4-Z powertrain is ideal for smooth driving and high efficiency. The group clearance for the first one is 249 mm, so it navigates on rough terrain easily, and the latter has 200 mm but is good for city driving and highway cruising and tackling speed breakers.

Powertrain Options

The Hi4-T comes with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and also a single P2-layout electric motor between the engine and gearbox. Its drivetrain is full-time (mechanical) all-wheel drive, and its transmission is nine-speed automatic. The power output for the engine is 265 kW (355 hp), and for the motor is 130 kW (174 hp).

The available battery pack is a 37.1 kWh ternary NMC, which gives an all-electric WLTC range of 90 km, and the fuel consumption in PHEV mode is 2.97 litres per 100 km, but if the battery is discharged, it consumes 10.9 litres for each 100 km of drive. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, and its top speed goes up to 190 km/h.

Now talk about the Hi4-Z; it gets a 2.0L turbo petrol engine under the hood that is paired with a transmission and an electric motor. The rear axle also features an electric one. The engine’s power output is 185 kW (248 hp), the front motor’s 215 kW (288 hp), and the rear motor’s 240 kW (322 hp). The combined power output is 635 kW (864 hp). The drivetrain is electric all-wheel drive, and the transmission is 3DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission).

It is available with a single battery pack, which is a 59.05 kWh ternary NMC. The only-electric WLTC range is 190 km, and the acceleration timing for 0-100 km/h is 5.6 seconds, and the top speed is 190 km/h, the same as the Hi4-T powertrain. The fuel efficiency in hybrid mode is 1.16 litres for 100 km, and when the battery is drained, it consumes 8.45 litres for each 100 km of drive.
