Honda to Launch 4 New Cars in India by 2028: SUVs, EV & Next-Gen City

Honda Motor, the Japanese automobile manufacturer, which operates in India as Honda Cars India, is all set to launch four cars in the Indian market by 2028; among them are pure-electric and others are ICE-powered. These four upcoming vehicles under the banner of Honda in India are the Honda 0 Alpha, the Honda 7-seater SUV, the Honda Sub-4-metre SUV, and the next-gen Honda City. Let’s have a closer look at each of these upcoming cars.

Honda 0 Alpha

The Honda 0 Alpha is a concept electric car for the Indian market; its production model will soon make its debut in India. The most expected date for the launch of this EV is the first quarter of 2027. Its nameplate is still pending. This car has already been spotted testing on public roads multiple times, which has already revealed that it will have a boxy silhouette, projector headlamps, a closed-off front grille, hidden door handles, and taillights around the rear windscreen.

Its cabin also has been spied; the interior spied images show that it gets a three-spoke D-shaped steering wheel, a large touchscreen infotainment system at the dashboard’s centre, and a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel. Powertrain details for this car are still pending, but reports suggest it will get a PMSM with one-speed automatic transmission on the front axle, featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain.

By late 2027, Honda Car India will launch an ICE-powered SUV with a seating capacity of 7 people which will measure under 4.8 metres. The report confirms that the production of this upcoming three-row SUV will begin in October 2027. It is set to be based on the brand’s new modular PF2 platform. Besides pure petrol, a strong hybrid and electric version will also go on sale, a few months after the ICE launch.

The upcoming three-row SUV from Honda will be positioned against the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus. Pricing details are still uncertain, most anticipated to cost ex-showroom starting from ₹17 lakh. Reports suggest it comes with an extended wheelbase to enhance high-speed stability and second-row legroom for better seating comfort even for the long-haul driver.

Honda Car India has officially confirmed that they will launch a sub-4-metre SUV for the Indian market in 2028. The only vehicle they are selling in the segment is the Honda Amaze, but it is a sedan. The rival of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and other vehicles in the segment will arrive with the ICE powertrain with a smart and spacious cabin for better comfort and convenience.

Details regarding its platform, suspension and braking are still pending. The size of this SUV is set to be 3.9 metres with a wheelbase of 2.6 metres. 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged and naturally aspirated petrol-powered internal combustion engines are anticipated with both automatic and manual transmission. It is certain that the drivetrain will be only front-wheel-drive.

Next-Gen Honda City

Next-Gen Honda City

The 5th-Gen Honda City is available for sale in the Indian market from July 2020, and the Next-Gen version of the same will arrive in 2028 that will underpin the Honda PF2 modular platform. The new-gen model will go on sale as ICE and also have a strong hybrid. The design of the 6th-Gen Honda City sedan will be totally different from the current-generation model.

The new-gen model of this sedan will get a new grille with a distinct lighting signature, and even its cabin is set to feature a new digital instrument cluster and a larger infotainment system on the revised dashboard. The cabin will have new and smart features, ensuring enhanced practicality, comfort and convenience for the driver and occupants.
