On September 22, 2026, Mahindra Auto launched the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG with the starting ex-showroom price of ₹10.32 lakh. Three powertrain options are available; they are 1.5L D117 CRDe diesel, 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol, and 2.2L mHawk diesel. This vehicle is available for sale in the Indian market, making changes to the model that they launched back in 2020.
A total of three variants, AXT, LXT, and ZXT, are available, which expands to a total of fifteen based on gearbox, transmission, and internal combustion engine options. Sales for the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG have officially begun with the launch, and the delivery date is announced. The carmaker is all set to start delivering the model from October 11, 2026; those who are in the initial stage will get the delivery preference.
The ex-showroom price announced with the launch is introductory which is all set to be applicable until November 30, 2026, meaning buyers who will make a purchase on or before this date will get the car with the ex-showroom price between ₹10.32 lakh and ₹18.99 lakh. Underpinning, suspension, and braking.
The 2026 Mahindra Thar OG is built on the M_Glyde 4G platform; compared to the standard model, it provides better increased structural stiffness. Its front and rear suspensions are independent and Pentalink with Watt’s link, respectively, and also equipped with the DaVinci damping technology to ensure better comfort on all types of terrains.
Note that the frequency-dependent damping system is only available on the ZXT variants. The electric power steering for better steering precision is available on AXT variants and also features a rear electronic locking differential on all LXT and ZXT 4WD versions. The front brake is a disc as standard, and the rear gets a drum on AXT and LXT variants, but the ZXT version is available with a disc.
Color options and dimensions.
A total of eight color options are available for the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG; among them, six—Tango Red, Galaxy Grey, Battleship Grey, Everest White, Stealth Black, and Deep Forest—are also on standard variants. Two new color options are Jeans Blue and Artemis Silver; buyers who are looking for exclusiveness may go with it.
The dimensions of the OG model are the same as the standard three-door Mahindra Thar; its length, width, and height are 3,985 mm, 1,820 mm, and 1,920 mm, respectively. The ground clearance of 226 mm makes it off-roading friendly, and the wheelbase of 2450 mm is ideal for its compact size; it is good enough for its high-speed stability.
Interior and exterior features.
Outside, the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG gets a five-slot front grille for a modern appearance. Its front and rear bumpers are totally revised compared to standard models, adding freshness to the exterior look. The circular LED headlamp setup gives it a mix of retro and futuristic looks. The LXT and ZXT are equipped with 18-inch wheels, but steel for the former and alloy for the latter.
The 19-inch alloy wheels are available as standard for the ZXT variant. Other features that are clearly visible on its exterior are the pronounced squared-off black wheel arches cladding, pull-type conventional handles for the side door, C-shaped taillight, large rear windshield, spare wheel on the tailgate, and front-door-mounted ORVMs.
Its cabin has soft-touch door panels, truffle brown leatherette upholstery available, and rear AC vents for AXT versions. The LXT gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless connectivity via Android Auto and Apple Carplay; there’s also a Colour MID behind the steering projecting driving data.
The ZXT gets embossed leatherette seats instead of truffle brown leatherette, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, a wireless charging pad that enhances phone charging convenience, a pressure monitoring system for enhanced safety, and a rearview mirror to help with parking in a compact area and reversing.
Performance and other details.
With the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel-powered ICE, the 2026 Mahindra Thar OG delivers 116.9 bhp and 300 Nm; its drivetrain and transmission option is rear-wheel-drive and six-speed manual, respectively. But with the 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol-powered and the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel-powered, it cranks 159.6 bhp and 150.1 bhp, respectively; the peak power for both is 330 Nm.
The transmission options for the last two internal combustion engine options are six-speed manual and six-speed automatic; the drivetrain for the manual is all-wheel-drive, but the automatic is available with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The acceleration timing and top speed for all three powertrains are still pending.
All the all-wheel-drive drivetrain variants come with the 4H and 4L transfer-case modes that help with driving on loose terrain and severe off-road conditions, respectively. To enhance its off-roading capabilities, it also has three different terrain modes: sand, snow, and mud.
